What is the best medicine for cracked nipples?

The biggest problem faced by breastfeeding mothers is the frequent occurrence of nipple cracks. Because the nipple is an absolutely sensitive and fragile area on the mother's breast. If the nipple cracks, it will cause severe pain to the mother's body, but she has to endure the pain and continue breastfeeding the baby. So when a breastfeeding mother has cracked nipples, what medicine can be used to effectively treat it?

This condition is nipple fissures. Nipple fissures are one of the common diseases during lactation. In mild cases, only cracks appear on the surface of the nipple, while in severe cases, local exudation and bleeding may occur. If the condition does not heal over time and recurs repeatedly, it is easy to form small ulcers. If it is not treated properly, it is very easy to cause mastitis.

Treatment: 1. Use a glass cover to cover the nipple, or wrap the nipple with sterilized gauze to avoid touching it to relieve pain. 2. Change underwear frequently to keep it dry. 3. Wash the nipple and areola with warm water before and after breastfeeding. Apply 10% cod liver oil bismuth or compound benzoin ointment to the cracked area after breastfeeding. 4. When the nipple cracks are severe, breastfeeding should be stopped, and the milk should be squeezed out by hand before feeding the baby to reduce the development of inflammation and promote the healing of the cracks. Breastfeeding can be resumed after the cracks are healed. 5. For long-term cracks that do not heal, a small amount of 25% silver nitrate can be lightly applied to the affected area, and then washed with saline to promote the healing of the cracks.

Medication treatment:

(1) Indigo Cream: absorbs moisture and relieves pain, clears away heat and detoxifies, and also has a moisturizing effect. Suitable for those with nipple cracks, swelling, pain and exudation.

(2) Qingchui mouth ointment: has the function of clearing away heat and detoxifying. Used for patients with inflammation and pain caused by chapped nipples.

(4) Mix Shengji Powder with cooked lard or sesame oil: it has the effect of promoting tissue regeneration and tightening wounds. Used for nipple cracks with erosion and exudate.

(5) Coptis chinensis ointment: It has the effects of moisturizing the skin, relieving itching, promoting tissue regeneration and drying dampness. It is used for patients with nipple cracks, exudation, swelling and pain.
