How to measure body temperature and monitor ovulation?

Under normal circumstances, women will ovulate once a month, and most women's bodies will change during the ovulation period. Some women will experience increased vaginal discharge and stringy phenomena, while some women will have increased body temperature. Women who are preparing for pregnancy can monitor their body temperature and make a table of the temperature to know their ovulation status.

How to measure body temperature and monitor ovulation?

1. Choose a thermometer

Of course, a thermometer is needed to measure basal body temperature. You can choose an electronic thermometer, but a mercury thermometer is also acceptable. The measurement time of an electronic thermometer is relatively short, about one and a half minutes, and it will make a "beep" sound to remind you when the temperature becomes constant. A mercury thermometer takes 5 minutes to measure, mercury expands slowly, and there is no warning sound.

2. Choose to measure after waking up in the morning

Measuring basal body temperature requires us not to exercise or eat. It is best to measure it immediately after waking up in the morning. We need to place the thermometer next to our pillow in an easily accessible place the night before so that we can measure it when we wake up the next day. It is best to set a fixed time, such as 7 am, so that you can make comparisons.

3. Sublingual measurement

In order to ensure the accuracy of the measurement, place the thermometer under the tongue and close your mouth. This way, the body temperature will not be affected by the external ambient temperature and will be more stable.

Because the basal body temperature only differs by 0.3-0.5℃, underarm measurement is greatly affected by external factors and is not recommended. After sublingual measurement, remember to clean the probe in time to avoid bacterial growth.

4. Keep measuring for more than 2 months

Some girls are not very familiar with the term "basal body temperature". Generally speaking, normal women ovulate every month. The body temperature is low before ovulation, and hormones such as progesterone in the body rise rapidly after ovulation, causing the body temperature to rise by 0.3-0.5℃ until the next menstruation, showing a biphasic body temperature. Sisters who are planning to get pregnant may wish to measure their body temperature for more than 2 months, so that they can clearly see the changing pattern of their body temperature.

The principle of basal body temperature:

The female menstrual cycle begins on the first day of menstrual bleeding. The length of the cycle varies from person to person, ranging from about 21 to 35 days. It is divided into the follicular phase before ovulation and the luteal phase after ovulation based on the ovulation period. The length of the follicular phase is not fixed, but the luteal phase is about 14 days, plus or minus two days. The day after ovulation, the corpus luteum is formed in the ovary and the secretion of progesterone will cause the body temperature to rise by about 0.6 degrees Celsius, causing the body temperature to fluctuate between high and low phases. The high temperature period lasts about 12-16 days (14 days on average).

There are many ways to measure body temperature. Many women measure their body temperature to see whether their body is normal or whether they are pregnant. Especially for women who are preparing for pregnancy, they must insist on measuring their body temperature during the preparation period so that they can more clearly see the pattern of their body temperature changes, and at the same time, take corresponding measures.
