What is Yang Yin

Nourishing yin and replenishing qi is a very important health-preserving method. Some people also call it nourishing yin. Especially for women, nourishing yin is very critical. If a woman’s body lacks yin, she may have some gynecological diseases, and she will become particularly cold in her sex life. Therefore, Chinese medicine pays the most attention to the harmony of yin and yang in the treatment of diseases. So what is nourishing yin and nourishing the kidneys?

Life is short. If you have qi, you have strength, so people pay attention to replenishing qi. There are many ways to replenish qi, and the one that people are more familiar with is eating warm and nourishing foods and taking medicines. But have you ever thought that “nourishing yin is also replenishing qi”?

Before answering this question, one must know what Qi is. Qi is an important basic substance for maintaining life activities. In the human body, Qi has two states, Yin and Yang. At night, Qi is Yin and stored in the kidneys; during the day, it is Yang and rises to the liver and reaches the eyes.

At night, the Yang energy does not return to the kidneys, but dissipates outside the kidneys, just like gas being exposed to the outside without being in the tank. It is both wasteful and polluting. The syndrome is often diagnosed as yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire, which manifests as limbs exposed outside the quilt at night and poor sleep; stiffness in the waist and back during the day, fatigue, dry and constipated stools, dry mouth or bad breath, and ulcers; in severe cases, hematuria, diabetes, or even other serious illnesses may occur. This is because the Yang Energy leaks out at night, and there is not enough Yang Energy during the day to support normal human activities.

People with yin deficiency and excess fire should not be treated with warm tonic. Proper storage is the warm tonic. The only way to recuperate is to nourish yin and restore people's energy. In this sense, nourishing yin is also replenishing qi.

Specific method: Nourish kidney Yin according to the degree of Yin Fire at the time of Xu; those with cold stomach can do it from the beginning of Shen to the beginning of Hai, in small amounts for multiple times; those with liver heat should also soothe the liver and clear away heat at the time of Xu; those with heart Yin deficiency and heat should nourish heart Yin. Once constipation occurs, use honey and hemp seeds to moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements during the Mao hour (5-7 am). Only by eliminating dry stool can the body and mind be at peace.

Nourish yang in spring and summer, and nourish yin in autumn and winter. Pay attention to nourishing yin and protecting the spleen and stomach.
