What to do if your feet swell during pregnancy

What to do if your feet swell during pregnancy

Many women will experience swollen feet during pregnancy. This is because the secretion of hormones causes the body to accumulate in the soles of the feet. It is a normal physiological phenomenon. The swollen feet will automatically disappear after giving birth. If pregnant women want to reduce swollen feet, they should not sit for too long, and should also avoid standing for long periods of time. They also need to choose suitable shoes and lift the twins to promote blood circulation in the soles of the feet to relieve the swelling.

Effective ways to reduce edema:

Sleeping on your side is better than sleeping on your back to minimize morning puffiness.

Don't sit for too long, stand up and walk around every hour and a half. Also avoid standing for long periods of time, as this can cause edema.

3. During the day, expectant mothers should lift their feet and keep their legs flat as often as possible to allow blood circulation in the legs to flow smoothly. They should also change their sitting and standing positions frequently.

4. Choose a good pair of shoes for yourself. For swollen feet, it is best to choose soft leather or cloth shoes made of soft natural materials, which can effectively reduce foot fatigue. Comfortable shoe with 1 cm leeway in front and back. The soles of the shoes should be non-slip and the heels should be at least 2 cm thick. Heavy, non-breathable shoes can make swelling worse.

5. Don’t wear clothes that are too tight. Try to wear pure cotton and comfortable clothes.

6. Taking a moderate bath can also relieve edema symptoms. Generally speaking, expectant mothers with edema should not avoid salt. Because the metabolism of expectant mothers is relatively active, especially the filtering and excretion functions of the kidneys are relatively strong, the loss of sodium also increases accordingly. In order to ensure the sodium needs of expectant mothers, the salt intake cannot be strictly controlled. Insufficient salt can easily lead to symptoms of low sodium such as loss of appetite, fatigue, etc. in expectant mothers, and in severe cases it can affect fetal development.

1. Watermelon is rich in fructose, vitamin C, etc., and has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, diuresis and reducing swelling. Eating more watermelon or its juice can reduce edema.

2. Vegetables such as red beans, onions, mint, garlic, eggplant, celery, etc. are also very good diuretic foods and you can pay attention to eating them in your daily diet.

3. Drinking water at moderate temperature (37 or 38 degrees Celsius) can also relieve the symptoms of edema. If you experience high blood pressure, protein in the urine, rapid weight gain, and swollen legs at the same time, you should be careful, as it may be gestational hypertension.
