Dengue hemorrhagic fever

Dengue hemorrhagic fever

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a relatively serious bleeding phenomenon. When patients have dengue hemorrhagic fever, they will not only have digestive bleeding, but also uterine bleeding and gastrointestinal bleeding. If the bleeding is not stopped in time, it will cause heavy bleeding, which will also threaten the patient's life. Generally, the bleeding site will make the patient feel pain. So how should dengue hemorrhagic fever be treated?

1 General symptoms

The average incubation period of dengue hemorrhagic fever is 4 days, and the patient begins to show typical dengue fever symptoms. During or after the fever subsides, the condition suddenly worsens, the skin becomes cold, the pulse rate increases, the person becomes drowsy or irritable, sweats, and there is bleeding in the digestive tract or other organs. It manifests as massive bleeding, including the digestive tract, respiratory tract, urogenital tract and central nervous system.

2. Gastrointestinal bleeding

It usually occurs 4-16 days into the disease course or within 2 days after the fever subsides, and the amount of bleeding is often hundreds to 1000mL or more. When the patient opens the abdomen, he or she will only feel fullness and dull pain in the upper abdomen, followed by tarry stools or dark red bloody stools. A few may vomit blood. Some patients developed hemorrhagic shock.

3. Uterine bleeding

It usually occurs about 2-4 days after onset, and the amount of bleeding can reach more than 600mL. The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage in patients who have given birth or abortion is extremely high, reaching 70%-90%. A small number of menopausal women or girls who have not yet had their periods may also experience uterine bleeding.

4Cerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhage

During dengue fever epidemics, some patients may also experience symptoms of cerebral and/or subarachnoid hemorrhage.

5Dengue Shock Syndrome

It has typical dengue fever symptoms, and usually appears 2-7 days after the onset of the disease, including irritability, cold and wet cyanosis of the extremities, decreased urine output, rapid pulse, low blood pressure, low pulse pressure and other manifestations of circulatory failure, which may be accompanied by chest and peritoneal effusion. Usually develops from dengue hemorrhagic fever.

6 Populations susceptible to dengue hemorrhagic fever

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is more common in girls aged 7-12 years who have strong immunity and good nutritional status. The symptoms in young infants are milder. Although infants passively acquire antibodies from their mothers, they can still develop dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Dengue hemorrhagic fever is rare after the age of 15.
