What is the cause of menorrhagia?

In traditional Chinese medicine, there are many diseases related to women's menstruation, such as metrorrhagia. In fact, from its literal meaning, we have a certain understanding of this disease, which means that menstrual blood is very irregular, in simple terms, it is continuous. If women encounter such problems, they must receive treatment in time. So the question is, what is the cause of menstrual bleeding?

Causes

The main cause of this disease is severe imbalance of the kidney-tiangui-chongren-baogong axis. Damage to the Chong and Ren meridians will make it impossible to control menstrual blood, causing abnormal uterine storage and discharge.

Pathogenesis

1. Spleen deficiency: Spleen deficiency is a common condition, or overwork, worry, and improper diet can damage the spleen. Spleen deficiency causes blood to lose control and in severe cases, the blood may sink downwards. Chong and Ren meridians are not solid and cannot control menstrual blood, resulting in metrorrhagia.

2. Kidney deficiency: congenital deficiency of kidney qi, or young girls whose kidney qi is not strong and whose menstruation is not full, or excessive sexual intercourse and childbirth damage the kidney qi, or long-term illness or serious illness will affect the kidney, or the kidney qi gradually declines and the menstruation gradually depletes after the age of 49. Kidney qi deficiency leads to dysfunction of sealing and storing, and Chong and Ren meridians are not solid, and cannot control menstrual blood.

3. Heat in the blood: Yang excess and blood heat in the body, or Yin deficiency and internal heat, or internal injury due to the seven emotions, liver depression turning into heat, or internal accumulation of dampness and heat, which damages the Chong and Ren meridians and forces blood to flow abnormally, resulting in metrorrhagia.

4. Blood stasis: internal injuries caused by the seven emotions, stagnation of qi and blood stasis, or blood stasis caused by burning sensation, cold stagnation, and deficiency stagnation; or residual blood during menstruation or after childbirth that has not been cleared away and the combination of yin and yang, internal blood stasis, or prolonged metrorrhagia, blood that has left the menstruation becomes blood stasis. Blood stasis blocks the Chong and Ren meridians and the uterus, causing blood to not return to the meridians and flow randomly, thus causing metrorrhagia.

Metrorrhagia is a disease characterized by serious irregularities in the menstrual cycle, period, and menstrual volume. It is called "melagogue" when it occurs suddenly, with heavy bleeding; it is called "leakage" when it occurs slowly, with a small amount of bleeding but continuous bleeding. Although metrorrhagia and fistula are different in terms of bleeding conditions, they often transform into each other during the course of the disease. For example, if the amount of metrorrhagia gradually decreases, it may transform into fistula, and if the fistula develops, it may turn into metrorrhagia. Therefore, metrorrhagia and fistula are often referred to together in clinical practice.
