What to do if no villi are seen after abortion

During the process of artificial abortion, curettage is required, and curettage is mainly to scrape out some villi and soft tissue, so that they can be thoroughly cleaned. However, no villi are seen during the abortion process. At this time, everyone will be particularly worried, thinking that there may be some complications or that the cleaning is not thorough at all. In fact, if there is no villi, you can consider the following factors and don't worry too much.

(1) Ectopic pregnancy: An ectopic pregnancy is when the embryo does not grow in the uterine cavity, but implants outside the uterus. The most common implantation is in the fallopian tube, but it can also be in the uterine horn, ovary or abdominal cavity. Ectopic pregnancy is very dangerous. If it is not diagnosed early, the embryo will gradually grow and then rupture and bleed heavily. If it is not rescued in time, the patient will soon die from hemorrhagic shock.

(2) Missed suction: During early pregnancy abortion, the embryo is very small and cannot be sucked up by the suction tube. Examination of the scraped material reveals no villi. Some women have uterine malformations, such as double uterus, bicornuate uterus, uterine septum, and excessive uterine flexion. The embryo cannot be sucked out by the suction tube, and no villi are found in the scrapings. In this case, the embryo remains in the uterine cavity. Therefore, if no villi are seen during artificial abortion, it should be taken seriously.

The patient must stay in the hospital for observation, wait for pathology results, and undergo B-ultrasound examination. If the B-ultrasound shows that there is still a gestational sac in the uterine cavity, there is a high possibility of missed aspiration; if it shows that there is no gestational sac in the uterine cavity, there is a high possibility of ectopic pregnancy, which needs to be treated promptly.
