Amniotic fluid was once contaminated

Amniotic fluid can keep the fetus's growth environment in an absolutely stable state. At the same time, when the pregnant woman's uterus is impacted by external force, the amniotic fluid can also play a very good buffering role. This also indirectly reflects the importance of amniotic fluid to the fetus. The health of amniotic fluid is also directly related to the healthy growth and living environment of the baby, so regular amniotic fluid examination is also a link that every pregnant woman cannot ignore. What should I do when the amniotic fluid is contaminated?

1. Normal amniotic fluid

Normal amniotic fluid: colorless, transparent or slightly turbid, neutral or weakly alkaline, with a small amount of white fetal membrane, lanuloidal hair, epithelial cells, etc.

Amniotic fluid contamination:

Degree Ⅰ is light green; degree Ⅱ is yellow-green; degree Ⅲ is brown-yellow. Turbid, sticky and small in quantity.

2. Causes of amniotic fluid contamination

1. Vernix caseosa

It usually occurs before 39 weeks of pregnancy. This is just because the fetus is immature and large, and the vernix caseosa floats in the amniotic fluid. There is no danger.

2. Cholestasis

The main substances in the amniotic fluid are fetal fluid and brittle hair. If it is simply turbid, it usually does not show that there is anything abnormal about the baby. If the amniotic fluid is found to be turbid during the B-ultrasound examination, it means that the fetus is not in good condition and needs to be delivered immediately.

3. Meconium stain

This is also what doctors are most worried about, because when the amniotic fluid is contaminated to the 3rd degree, it indicates fetal distress and intrauterine fetal death may occur at any time. But this is rare when there are no signs of labor.

4. Intrauterine hypoxia

During delivery, the fetus suffers from lack of oxygen in the uterus, causing premature excretion of meconium and contamination of the amniotic fluid.

There are many reasons for amniotic fluid contamination. In addition to the above reasons, it may also be related to environmental pollution, viral infection, advanced maternal age, etc. Given that amniotic fluid contamination can threaten the life and health of the fetus, once the amniotic fluid is found to be dirty, seek medical attention promptly to find out the cause and prescribe the right medicine.
