How to care for the incision after gynecological surgery

How to care for the incision after gynecological surgery

Medically speaking, natural birth is more beneficial to the health of the baby and the woman than caesarean section. However, for some women who are unable to give birth naturally, choosing caesarean section is also a safe option. Of course, a cesarean section requires surgery, so a cut will be left on the abdomen. This cut also requires a certain amount of time to heal. At the same time, women have almost zero tolerance for the existence of scars. Therefore, whether for the health or beauty of women, the cut needs to be cared for.

Use less pain medication

When the effect of the anesthetic slowly disappears after cesarean section, the pain in the abdominal wound begins to return, and the pain usually becomes severe a few hours after the operation. In order to ensure good rest and recover as quickly as possible, you can ask your doctor to give you some painkillers on the day of surgery or that night. After that, you need to be more patient and try not to use pain relief drugs, otherwise it will affect the recovery of intestinal motility function. Generally speaking, the pain from the wound will disappear on its own after 3 days. Gently massaging the wound with your fingers for 3 to 5 minutes every day can promote wound healing and reduce scar formation.

You should turn over more often after surgery

Anesthetic drugs have a certain inhibitory effect on intestinal peristalsis, which can cause varying degrees of intestinal flatulence and thus abdominal distension, which is not conducive to wound healing. Therefore, after delivery, you should turn over in bed more often to promote the early recovery of paralyzed intestinal muscle peristalsis function and help expel gas in the intestine as soon as possible.

Semi-recumbent position is recommended for bed rest

Since the physical recovery of mothers who undergo cesarean section is much slower than that of those who give birth naturally, mothers who undergo cesarean section are more likely to have difficulty expelling lochia. Therefore, it is recommended that mothers adopt a semi-recumbent position and turn over more often. This can promote the discharge of lochia, avoid accumulation in the uterine cavity and cause infection which affects uterine reduction, and is also beneficial to the healing of the uterine incision.

Keep your abdominal incision clean

Within 2 weeks after surgery, avoid getting the abdominal wound wet and do not take a full body shower, but use a sponge bath. You can take a shower after two weeks, but you must not take a sitz bath until the lochia is completely discharged. Do not get the incision wet or dirty before the wound heals. If it gets wet, it must be wiped dry immediately and disinfected with betadine. If the wound becomes red, swollen, hot, or painful, do not squeeze or apply any application patches on it yourself. You should seek medical attention promptly to avoid wound infection and delayed treatment.

Get out of bed and move around as early as possible

Do not use the pain of an injury as an excuse to avoid exercise. You should get out of bed and move around as early as possible as long as your physical strength allows, and increase the amount of activity gradually. In this way, not only can the intestinal peristalsis function be increased and the uterine repositioning be promoted, but also the occurrence of diseases such as intestinal adhesion, thrombophlebitis, and lower limb thrombosis can be avoided. However, when getting out of bed, you should lie on your side first, use your hands to support your body to get up, and avoid sitting up directly with abdominal strength. Before coughing, laughing, sneezing or getting out of bed, be sure to use your hands and a belly band to secure the wound to prevent the incision from bursting.
