It mainly affects sexually active people, with the peak incidence being between 20 and 25 years old. Whether the disease develops after sexual contact with a patient with genital warts depends largely on the amount of virus inoculated and the body's specific immunity. Some authors have also observed that the infectiousness of genital warts decreases with increasing age.
