What can hysteroscopy detect?

Hysteroscopy is a common examination method in our lives. This examination method is not only used in gynecological diseases but also can be used to help treat infertility. Especially when doing embryo transplantation, because you don’t know the situation in the female uterus, you can do a hysteroscopy first to see if the uterus meets the transplantation standards. So what can hysteroscopy detect?

In many infertility consultations and treatments, the doctor will prescribe a hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, or a hystero-laparoscopy. This examination is not only a surgical examination, but also a treatment method. Today Xiaoyou is going to talk about hysteroscopy.

Hysteroscopy is like giving the doctor a pair of electronic eyes, allowing the doctor to clearly see the situation inside the uterine cavity and to clear any abnormalities in the uterine cavity through operating tubes.

When is hysteroscopy necessary?

1. Ultrasound, hysterosalpingography and other examinations indicate uterine cavity abnormalities (adhesions, space-occupying lesions, etc.);

2. Abnormal uterine bleeding;

3. If you plan to undergo artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization, it is recommended to perform a uterine cavity assessment before the operation;

4. Infertility or repeated spontaneous abortion occurs;

5. Previous history of tuberculosis, excluding endometrial tuberculosis;

6. Suspected of endometrial cancer and precancerous lesions.

When to perform hysteroscopy

The doctor will arrange the timing of the operation according to the different purposes of the hysteroscopic surgery.

3-7 days after the menstrual period is over is the early follicular phase, when the endometrium is thinner and the surgical field is better, which is suitable for most hysteroscopic surgeries, such as submucosal uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, uterine septum, selective fallopian tube catheterization, etc.

Patients with abnormal uterine bleeding or suspected endometrial cancer can undergo hysteroscopy at any time;

If the menstrual period is prolonged and irregular endometrial shedding is suspected, the examination should be performed on the 5th to 7th day of the menstrual period;

Suspected endometrial tuberculosis should be examined by hysteroscopy within 1 week before menstruation or within 6 hours before menstruation.

Some require pretreatment with medication, and can be examined after the pretreatment is completed.

As long as the menstrual period is avoided, it may be the time for hysteroscopy. Infertile patients should avoid having sex after the menstruation ends and before the operation.

Things to note before hysteroscopy

1. Body temperature>37.5℃.

2. Severe anemia.

3. Acute or subacute genital tract or pelvic inflammation.

4. Invasive cervical cancer and genital tuberculosis without anti-tuberculosis treatment.

5. Severe internal and surgical complications make it impossible to tolerate surgical operations.

6. The uterine cavity is too narrow or the cervical canal is narrow and hard, making it difficult to dilate.
