What to do if the cervix is long

What to do if the cervix is long

After the female egg and male sperm combine, the first checkpoint they need to pass through is the female cervix. The length of the cervical canal directly determines the difficulty of the fertilized egg implanting, and during the delivery process, the fetus also needs to pass through the female cervical canal before it can be delivered normally. Generally, when the due date comes, the woman's cervical canal will become shorter, which is to allow the fetus to be delivered better. But what should be done if the cervical canal is too long?

When the due date arrives, the cervix is long because the cervix is not mature or the cervical canal has not disappeared. In other words, the formal labor process has not yet begun, and the uterus has not yet entered the regular uterine contraction process of delivery. It is not time for delivery yet. If the fetal heart rate is normal, the amniotic fluid is normal, and the placenta is immature, you can be hospitalized and wait for natural delivery. During natural childbirth, a mature cervix requires the cervical canal to be flattened to a size larger than 2 cm, and then the cervix gradually dilates to allow for a successful delivery.

If the due date is exceeded and there are no uterine contractions, obstetricians will generally recommend the use of labor-inducing drugs such as oxytocin; small doses of oxytocin can soften the cervix, so there is a risk of precipitous delivery. Therefore, it is necessary to observe the uterine contractions in time.

What should I do if my cervix is long when my due date comes?

Generally speaking, it is normal for a fetus to be born 2 weeks before or after the due date. A pregnancy reaching or exceeding 42 weeks is called a post-term pregnancy. In addition, oxytocin has strict indications and can generally only be used when the cervical canal has disappeared, uterine contractions are weak, and labor is prolonged. Therefore, it is best not to use oxytocin to induce labor. If the cervix is long, new mothers can do the following:

1. Pay attention to fetal movement, which can massage the nipples and stimulate the cervix, and the cervical canal will become shorter;

2. Do more activities, such as climbing stairs, which can effectively help the uterus contract;

3. You can drink some honey water or chrysanthemum tea, which can soften the cervix;

4. If the cervix is not open and there are no uterine contractions, and if the fetal heart rate is poor, the amniotic fluid is low, or the placenta is aging, you need to consider a cesarean section.

5. If there is no response after taking oxytocin, it is best to perform a cesarean section.

After reading the introduction, I believe everyone has a general understanding of how cervical lengthening can induce labor. At the same time, obstetricians kindly remind mothers: eat a reasonable diet and improve nutrition before the due date; maintain a regular lifestyle and exercise appropriately; have regular prenatal checkups to keep abreast of the development of the fetus; maintain an optimistic attitude and be prepared for delivery.
