The difference between induction and augmentation of labor

The difference between induction and augmentation of labor

Some pregnant women are about to give birth in the late pregnancy, but their cervix is not wide open and they have no way to give birth. At this time, they need to take an oxytocin injection to help the pregnant woman's uterus contract, so that the pregnant woman can give birth quickly. In the case of induced labor, the pregnant woman also needs an injection, because only in this way can the pregnant woman end the pregnancy. So what is the difference between induced labor and oxytocin?

The two are different concepts

What we often call induced labor is the use of artificial abortion to expel the fetus when the pregnant mother does not want or cannot have a baby; induced labor is the use of oxytocin to strengthen uterine contractions, hasten the progress of labor, and prevent its extension. The concepts of the two are completely different.

Induction of labor in special circumstances

Generally speaking, it is not easy for pregnant women to get pregnant and to maintain pregnancy. If there is no special reason, for example, more than 28 weeks in the late pregnancy, or due to complications that make the body unsuitable for continuing the pregnancy, such as pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, etc., drugs are used to induce uterine contractions to achieve the effect of inducing labor, so that the fetus can be separated from the adverse maternal environment as soon as possible and ensure the safety of mother and child.

Abortion Induction

There is a special reason, that is, the pregnant mother does not want a baby, or cannot have a baby under the current conditions, then she can have an artificial abortion and the baby will be born stillborn.

Inducing labor to help birth

So, what is induction of labor? It means that when a pregnant mother has weak uterine contractions and abnormal progress of labor, oxytocin is used to strengthen uterine contractions, accelerate the progress of labor, prevent the extension of labor, and ensure the health of the baby and the pregnant mother.

Through the above analysis, we can see that there is a strict difference between induction of labor and induction of labor. Based on the above differences, pregnant mothers should master these little knowledge.
