Can I eat barbecue when I am pregnant?

You cannot eat barbecue when you are just pregnant, mainly because barbecue can easily cause getting angry, and barbecue contains many carcinogens, so eating too much barbecue will affect the development of the fetus. Getting a sore throat can affect the fetus's neurological development, and barbecue must be cooked before it can be eaten. Mainly, you should pay attention to your diet when you are pregnant. Eating a small amount of barbecue will not have any effect, but getting a sore throat is a very troublesome symptom.

Barbecue food itself does not contain carcinogens. It is mainly because the charcoal used for barbecue contains a small amount of benzopyrene, and the smoke produced by high-temperature combustion may enter the food. In addition, when grilling, the fat in the food splits under high temperature to produce a large number of free radicals. These free radicals interact with each other and generate benzopyrene through thermal polymerization. If the fat is too burnt or even carbonized, the benzopyrene content will be seriously exceeded.

Pregnant mothers can still eat barbecue occasionally during pregnancy if they do the following.

1. Try to choose regular barbecue restaurants and don't eat on the street. On the one hand, it can ensure the quality, hygiene and safety of barbecue ingredients and avoid foodborne diseases. On the other hand, most regular barbecue restaurants use electricity or natural gas, which isolates the benzopyrene produced by charcoal burning.

2. If it is a family picnic barbecue, the grill rack and barbecue skewers must be cleaned, and lean meat should be selected as much as possible to reduce the high temperature fat dripping into the fire to produce benzopyrene. The meat can also be cooked in the microwave in advance to reduce the grilling time, which will reduce the probability of benzopyrene entering the food and avoid diarrhea caused by accidentally eating uncooked meat. In addition, pregnant women should try to stay away from smoke and sit upwind in a smoke-free area.

3. Ensure the diversity of diet. Don't just grill meat. In fact, vegetables are also very safe ingredients for grilling. This is because their own ingredients will not produce benzopyrene. In addition, they are very easy to grill, the grilling time is short, and the chance of forming carcinogens is quite low.

4. The seasonings used during barbecue can also cause hidden dangers to pregnant mothers, especially spicy condiments such as pepper, which pregnant mothers should not eat. After eating barbecue, you can drink a cup of warm lemon juice and eat some fruit salad to clear the greasy feeling in your stomach.
