5 weeks pregnant belly distension

If you feel a distended lower abdomen during the fifth week of pregnancy, which is the early stages of pregnancy, this is quite dangerous because it may mean that the woman is experiencing threatened miscarriage. Threatened miscarriage is not completely unrecoverable. As long as you receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor and take good care of the fetus, the baby can still be saved. Next, I will introduce to you the treatment and maintenance methods of threatened abortion.

1. General treatment

If threatened miscarriage occurs, pregnant women should pay attention to rest, reduce activity, refrain from sexual intercourse, avoid unnecessary vaginal examinations, reduce stimulation to the uterus, and avoid excessive mental stress, otherwise it will cause miscarriage. After the bleeding stops, it is best to rest for two weeks before returning to work. This treatment method for threatened abortion is suitable for female friends with mild symptoms of threatened abortion.

2. Drug treatment

Progesterone ensures embryo development, maintains pregnancy, inhibits uterine smooth muscle contraction, and reduces uterine tension. In the early stages of pregnancy, threatened abortion can be treated with medication to maintain pregnancy, or with intramuscular injection of human chorionic gonadotropin (because this hormone can stimulate corpus luteum function). Sedatives and beta-blockers can be used in the second and third trimesters to reduce mental stimulation and inhibit uterine contractions. In addition, oral vitamin E is also beneficial for maintaining the development of the embryo.

3. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine can treat according to syndrome differentiation: those with kidney deficiency can use Cuscuta australis, Viscum album, donkey-hide gelatin, and Dipsacus asper. For patients with trauma, Xiao Chaihu Decoction can be used to treat threatened abortion with additions of angelica, bupleurum, raw astragalus, cimicifuga root, mistletoe, donkey-hide gelatin and dipsaci.

4. Pay attention to fatigue

It is generally hoped that expectant mothers do not engage in too much activity in the first three months of pregnancy, as it may cause threatened miscarriage. If vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, etc. occur, these are warning signs of threatened miscarriage and you need to seek medical attention as soon as possible. In addition, this situation may be caused by excessive fatigue or excessive activity, and the expectant mother also needs to rest in bed more.

5. Balanced Diet

During pregnancy, you need to consume a balanced diet of the six major food groups. If the expectant mother has anemia, she can take iron supplements after diagnosis by a doctor. In the first three months of pregnancy, morning sickness is severe due to hormonal changes, and vitamin B6 can be taken to alleviate the symptoms.
