What causes black vaginal discharge during pregnancy?

Because of some different changes in the body after pregnancy, there will be secretions. Except for the absence of menstruation, leucorrhea will occur regularly. Normal leucorrhea is like egg white or some white paste, and has almost no strong odor. However, many pregnant women have black leucorrhea and feel some abnormalities. These should be considered as abnormal manifestations of leucorrhea, and they need to check what is going on as soon as possible.

After a woman becomes pregnant, the corpus luteum of the ovary will secrete a large amount of estrogen and progesterone, mainly to maintain the implantation and development of the fertilized egg. Regarding the reason why leucorrhea turns black during pregnancy, an expert from Zhuhai Bo'ai Obstetrics and Gynecology said: When it appears brown or yellow, it is abnormal. If treatment is delayed, it can easily lead to cervical erosion.

If there are abnormalities in the leucorrhea, such as large amount, color, odor, or properties, it is often caused by inflammation of the vagina, cervix or internal genitalia, or miscarriage. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and diagnosis in time. Don't delay

Causes of excessive vaginal discharge after pregnancy

After 12 weeks, when the placenta is formed, it gradually replaces the corpus luteum and continues to synthesize large amounts of estrogen and progesterone. Therefore, pregnant women's bodies will always maintain high estrogen and progesterone levels. At this time, estrogen and progesterone-dependent cells will undergo great changes. The female vulva tissue becomes soft and moist, the vaginal epithelium thickens, the blood vessels become congested, the exudate and exfoliated cells increase, the cervix becomes enlarged, soft, and congested, and the glands secrete vigorously. The secretions of the cervical glands, vaginal exudate and exfoliated cells mix together to form leucorrhea, which will be continuously discharged from the body during pregnancy.

Abnormal leucorrhea after pregnancy

Therefore, it is normal to have increased vaginal discharge in the early stages of pregnancy. However, it should be noted that if a pregnant woman experiences symptoms such as vulvar itching and pain, or if the leucorrhea is yellow and has a strange or foul smell, these may be caused by vulvar or vaginal diseases. If not treated in time, it may affect the growth and development of the fetus.
