Six tips for getting pregnant quickly

1: Calculate ovulation period

The biggest secret to getting pregnant fast is knowing when you ovulate. Think of the egg as a bullseye and the sperm as a bunch of arrows. To get pregnant, one arrow has to hit the bull's eye.

Since most women only release one egg per menstrual cycle, you only have a few days each cycle when you can get pregnant. Knowing when you ovulate means you and your partner can identify the bullseye and aim for it, rather than firing arrows randomly and hoping for luck.

If you find that your periods have been irregular for several months, it may be difficult to tell when you are ovulating. In this case, it is best to go to the hospital and ask a specialist to check it out.

2: Choose the best time for sexual intercourse

Once you know when you ovulate, you can schedule sex to coincide with your most fertile period, which is from three days before to the day of ovulation. Of course, there is no harm in starting sexual life earlier. Some women become pregnant because of sexual intercourse 6 days before ovulation.

You have plenty of time to arrange your sex life because sperm can survive in your body for 5 to 6 days, but be aware that the survival time of an egg is only about 1 day. This means that if you have sex on Monday, sperm can survive in your fallopian tubes and lurk until around Thursday, waiting to catch your egg and swim through, or even until Sunday.

If you're not sure when your most fertile days are, a simple and practical way to do it is to have sex every other day. Such frequent sexual intercourse means that there are healthy sperm in your fallopian tubes every day, ready to take action once an egg is released.

If you want to have sex more often, that's fine too. While this won't help you get pregnant faster, it won't hurt either.

What needs to be reminded is that if you and your partner want to wait until your best fertile period to have sex, make sure he doesn't "dry" for too long before that, that is, he should ejaculate at least once before your best fertile period. If he doesn't ejaculate, when the critical moment comes, some dead sperm may accumulate in his semen, and dead sperm cannot make you pregnant.

3. Lie on your back after sex

For a long time, no one could really say whether lying on your back after sex, to prevent sperm from leaking out, would help improve the chances of sperm reaching and fertilizing an egg.

Now, there is reason to think that lying down after sex does help. In 2009, researchers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, found that during artificial insemination, when doctors deliver sperm directly into a woman's uterus, those who lie down for 15 minutes are 50% more likely to become pregnant than those who stand up immediately.

While we can't be sure that the same conditions apply during intercourse as with artificial insemination, this study suggests that taking a few quiet moments after sex may give your husband's sperm a helping hand. Regardless, there's no harm in trying.

4. Enjoy the process

If you're desperate to get pregnant quickly, you may find yourself becoming anxious. While this is normal, you should know that conception will be easier if you are not so nervous. If you're too stressed, your hypothalamus, the gland in your brain that regulates ovulation hormones, may not function properly, so you may ovulate later than usual or not ovulate at all during your cycle.

So you must find ways to enjoy the process of trying to get pregnant as much as possible, because enjoying your sex life can increase your chances of conception, rather than just treating it as a means to have a baby. You can try different sexual intercourse methods to spice up the process of making a baby, but no one method has been proven to be more effective than another.

5: Prepare the best quality sperm

Healthy, strong, and abundant sperm have the best chance of fertilizing an egg. The following methods can help your husband's sperm to fully exert its fighting power:

• Stop drinking alcohol. Studies show that daily drinking in men can reduce testosterone levels and sperm count, while increasing the number of abnormal sperm.

• Quit smoking and drugs as they can lead to poor sperm function.

• Adequate intake of certain key nutrients, such as zinc, folate, calcium, vitamins C and D, as these help produce abundant, strong, and fully motile sperm.

• Avoid hot springs, saunas and hot tubs as the high temperatures can kill sperm. The testicles function best in an environment of 34.5℃ ~ 36℃ (one or two degrees lower than normal body temperature).

It would be best for your husband to make the above adjustments as soon as possible. It takes time to produce sperm, and the improvements he makes today will help him produce higher quality semen in about 3 months.

6. Prepare your body

If your body is primed for pregnancy, your chances of conceiving are higher. So it's best to get a prenatal check-up to see if you're suitable for pregnancy and what improvements you may need to make. If in case you have any health problems, early detection and treatment will be very helpful for your future pregnancy.

In addition, you should also quit drinking, taking drugs, and smoking, as these things will interfere with your fertility and will be more harmful to the fetus. Don't forget to cut back on your caffeine intake, either; more than one or two cups a day can lower your chances of conceiving.
