Purulent vaginal discharge

Purulent vaginal discharge

Physical health is particularly important. Gynecological diseases are common among women, such as vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis and other gynecological diseases. Women's vaginas secrete light yellow or transparent leucorrhea every day. If the leucorrhea is abnormal, it means that there is a problem with the human body. Purulent vaginal discharge is a common condition for women. Early detection and early treatment are necessary. What is the cause of purulent vaginal discharge? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. What causes purulent vaginal discharge?

Normal vaginal discharge for women is white or transparent and has no odor. If there is purulent leucorrhea, it is generally considered to be a gynecological inflammation, such as vaginitis, cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory disease. After this happens, it is recommended not to take medication blindly, because there are many types of inflammation, and the treatment methods and medications for different types of inflammation are also different. Therefore, it is recommended to go to the hospital for a secretion examination. Check whether it is vaginitis or cervicitis. If it is vaginitis, it is divided into bacterial, fungal and Trichomonas, and the medication can be selected based on the test results. If it is chronic cervicitis, you can use Baofukang suppository for local medication, do not have sexual intercourse for the time being, and keep the vulva clean and dry.

2. Hospital examination items for vaginitis

1. Internal examination

For women who have sexual experience, obstetricians and gynecologists will use internal examinations, that is, ask the female patient to lie on the examination table, take off her underwear, and then put her feet on a specific bracket. The doctor will then use the gloved index and middle fingers to gently insert into your vagina and touch the cervix. At the same time, he will use the other hand to press the abdomen to check whether the uterus is enlarged, or whether the fallopian tubes and ovaries are enlarged. This step is more suitable for people who already have sexual experience. Doctors generally do not perform this step on people who have no sexual experience because they are concerned about damaging the hymen.

2. Leucorrhea Routine

Leucorrhea is a mixture of vaginal mucosal exudates, cervical and endometrial gland secretions, and its formation is related to the action of estrogen. The general leucorrhea routine test list has the following test items:

1) pH value: After puberty, due to the stimulation of ovarian sex hormones, the mucosal epithelial cells contain rich animal starch, which is decomposed by vaginal lactobacilli into lactic acid, making the vaginal secretions weakly acidic, which can prevent pathogenic bacteria from multiplying in the vagina. This is the self-cleaning function of the vagina. The pH value is often used to indicate the acidity and alkalinity in laboratory tests. The normal pH is 4.5. When suffering from trichomoniasis or bacterial vaginitis, the pH value of leucorrhea increases and may be greater than 5-6.

2) Vaginal cleanliness can be divided into 4 levels:

Grade I: A large number of vaginal epithelial cells and vaginal bacilli are seen under the microscope.

Grade II: Vaginal epithelial cells, a small amount of white blood cells, some vaginal bacilli, and a small amount of miscellaneous bacteria or pus cells are seen under the microscope.

Grade III: A small amount of vaginal bacilli, a large number of pus cells and miscellaneous bacteria are seen under the microscope.

Grade IV: No vaginal bacilli are seen under the microscope, and except for a small amount of epithelial cells, there are mainly pus cells and miscellaneous bacteria.

Note: Grades Ⅰ to Ⅱ are normal, and grades Ⅲ to Ⅳ are abnormal leucorrhea, indicating vaginal inflammation.

3) Fungi and Trichomonas: After the leucorrhea is processed, the presence of Trichomonas or fungi can be detected based on its morphology under a microscope. If Trichomonas or fungi are present, regardless of the number, they will be indicated by a "+". The "+" symbol only means that the woman is infected with Trichomonas or fungi, and does not indicate the severity of the infection.

4) Amine test: The leucorrhea of patients with bacterial vaginosis may have a fishy odor, which is caused by the amines in the leucorrhea being volatilized after being alkalized with potassium hydroxide.

5) Clue cells: Clue cells refer to the many bacilli aggregated at the edge of the vaginal epithelial cells in patients with bacterial vaginosis. In the hanging drop smear, the edges of the vaginal epithelial cells are granular or stippled, making them unclear. These are clue cells. They are the most sensitive and specific sign of bacterial vaginosis. Clinicians can make a diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis based on a positive amine test and the presence of clue cells.

3. Bacterial culture test (BV test)

A smear test of vaginal secretions is performed, and the results are available in 20 minutes. It can detect the pathogenic bacteria of bacterial vaginosis. If there is no mold or trichomonas and the cleanliness level is above 3, testing is required.

4. Mycoplasma and Chlamydia Detection

Cervical mucus testing can confirm non-gonococcal vaginitis caused by mycoplasma and chlamydia infection. If you have sex, especially if you have pain during intercourse, lower abdominal distension, more than two sexual partners, if your condition does not improve with continuous medication or recurs, or if you have cervical erosion, you need to be checked.

5. Drug sensitivity test

If it is confirmed as non-gonococcal vaginitis, this experiment is very important to choose the antibiotic that is suitable for you, drug sensitivity test: S-sensitive, M-intermediate-sensitive, R-resistant.

3. Notes

Clean your genitals on time every day, once or twice a day, and do not wash your genitals multiple times.
