How to treat breast cleft

How to treat breast cleft

The treatment of breast fissures requires anti-inflammatory disinfection, otherwise it will lead to bacterial infection of breast fissures. Therefore, the treatment of breast fissures is recommended, and the most important thing is to pay attention to the care of breast fissures. The main cause of breast cracks is inflammation. When feeding with the nipple, the baby accidentally bites the nipple, causing skin damage. It is hoped that the cracks can be treated in time.

What to do with cracked nipples

For breast fissures that occur during lactation, you need to change your usual breastfeeding habits and breastfeed correctly. At the same time, pay attention to protecting the nipple skin.

1. When cleaning the nipples, avoid using highly alkaline soaps, detergents or applying medicated oils. Generally, warm water is sufficient.

2. Continue to breastfeed your baby while improving your baby's sucking posture. Mothers can first feed from the breast on the side that does not hurt, allowing the baby to suck her entire areola to prevent excessive friction or biting of the nipple. When feeding posture is improved, the pain usually improves quickly and the fissures heal quickly.

3. During the intervals between breastfeeding, expose the cracked nipples to the air and sunlight as much as possible to help the cracks heal. At the same time, after breastfeeding, try to wear looser underwear and bras, and put the nipple shield in the right place to allow air circulation to heal the damaged nipples.

4. Leave a drop of hind milk on the nipple after each breastfeeding. The antibacterial factors in breast milk can help heal the cracks, and the rich protein it contains is also beneficial for epidermal repair. But be careful not to have too much, and clean it up immediately if milk leaks out.

5. After some mothers improve their sucking posture, nipple pain still exists, or due to breast swelling, the baby cannot get enough milk, which will aggravate the milk stagnation. Therefore, it is best to squeeze out the milk before the cracks heal.

5. When nipple rupture occurs, avoid infection and inflammation. Mothers can first wash the cracked part of the nipple with warm water, and then apply 10% cod liver oil bismuth or compound benzoin tincture to the affected area. You can also use equal parts of the Chinese medicine Phellodendron chinense and Angelica dahurica, grind them into powder, mix with sesame oil or honey and apply it on the cracked areas. It is worth noting that no matter whether you use Chinese or Western medicine, you must wash the medicine off before breastfeeding. After breastfeeding, it is best to protect your nipples with nipple shields or sterile gauze.

7. If the mother's nipple rupture is severe, it is best to stop breastfeeding for 1-2 days. Or use a glass bra to suck out the milk and then feed it to your baby, and try to prevent your baby from coming into contact with the milk. If there is also a lack of milk, you can ask other mothers who have more milk to help with breastfeeding. You can feed your baby 1 to 2 times a day. If not, you can give your baby formula. After doing this for a day, the cracked nipples will heal and you can resume normal breastfeeding immediately.

8. If the chapped areas do not heal for a long time or recur, it is best to see a doctor as soon as possible. You can also seek treatment from traditional Chinese medicine. Mothers with milder symptoms can apply cod liver oil drops for children, and be careful to clean the baby thoroughly when breastfeeding. Mothers with severe chapped cheeks should seek medical treatment.

9. For mothers with inverted nipples, if the degree of inversion is mild, you can use negative pressure suction and manual traction on the nipples. Breastfeeding can be continued after the nipples are pulled out. At the same time, you should pay attention to cleaning the nipples after breastfeeding. If the cracks are severe, you can squeeze out the milk and feed it to the baby with a bottle. If the inverted nipple is severe or too small, surgical treatment can be performed under the doctor's advice, while paying attention to the care of the fissure.

For women who experience nipple fissures when they are not breastfeeding, it is best to first find out the cause of the fissures and then carry out targeted treatment. At the same time, during the treatment process, avoid using highly irritating cleaning agents to avoid aggravating wound infection. If you have nipple fissures, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible to avoid worsening of the wound.
