What to do if the nipple base is cracked

The main cause of nipple base cracks is skin erosion or nipple ulcers. Therefore, when treating nipple base cracks, you need to pay attention to the hygiene of the cracks in your daily life to avoid nipple infection. The best way to deal with cracks at the base of the nipple is to perform anti-inflammatory treatment and pay attention to the hygiene of the nipple to ensure the recovery of the cracked nipple.

Nipple fissures are also called "nipple wind" in traditional Chinese medicine. They are cracks in the nipple skin or the junction of the nipple and areola. The nipple surface often has cracks and ulcers of varying sizes, or skin erosion, due to friction between the nipple and clothes or damage caused by sucking by the baby. Sometimes a deep annular crack occurs along the base of the nipple, causing the nipple to almost fall off the areola. When breastfeeding, the pain is unbearable, like a knife cut. When the secretions in the fissure dry up, they form yellow scabs, causing dry pain. In severe cases, the nipple may be partially ruptured, and vertical fissures can divide the nipple into two parts. Pathogenic bacteria can enter the breast tissue through nipple fissures, causing breast diseases such as acute mastitis. Therefore, preventing the occurrence of wrinkles is crucial.

Cracked Nipple Treatment

1. Use a glass cover or rubber breast to cover the nipple, or wrap the nipple with sterilized gauze to avoid touching it to relieve pain.

2. Change your underwear frequently and keep it dry.

3. Wash the nipples and areola with warm water. Apply 10% cod liver oil bismuth or compound benzoin ointment to the cracks.

4 For chapped cracks that do not heal for a long time, you can lightly apply a small amount of 25% silver nitrate to the affected area, and then wash it with saline to promote healing of the cracks.

Prevention of cracked nipples

To prevent nipple cracking, take the following measures:

1. You should start paying attention to nipple hygiene and wash the nipples and areola with soap and warm water every day.

2. Clean and massage the nipples frequently (2 to 3 days) with 75% alcohol to enhance the wear resistance of the nipple skin.

3. Change underwear frequently and wear a bra to prevent nipple skin abrasions
