Why do pregnant women have taste disorders?

Pregnant women not only experience certain changes in mood, but also in taste. Some women prefer light food before pregnancy, but after pregnancy, they like heavy food, etc., and the duration is relatively long. In fact, the change in taste is directly related to the needs of the fetus. Pregnant women are better not to force changes. So what is the matter with pregnant women's taste disorder?

First, what causes taste disorders in pregnant women? Pregnant women’s sense of taste changes after pregnancy, some become more sensitive, while others become abnormal. These changes usually occur during the first trimester, the first 3 months of pregnancy. This is related to the changes in hormones in the body after pregnancy, including changes in stomach acid and taste bud secretions, and is a normal phenomenon.

Second, the effect of estrogen. Studies have shown that after women become pregnant, the increase in estrogen can make their sense of taste more sensitive. In addition, under the influence of hormones, the placenta will secrete a large amount of HCG, which has a certain inhibitory effect on the secretion of gastric acid, affects the activity of digestive enzymes, and also affects the desire for food.

Third, pregnant women do not have to deliberately change their taste. Generally, these strange changes will disappear on their own after giving birth. As long as you don't eat foods that affect the fetus, such as crabs, turtles, hawthorns, longans, etc., it is acceptable even if the taste is a bit strange. Pay attention to maintaining a balanced diet, not being picky about food, and not eating only one kind or type of food for a long time, otherwise you will not be able to meet the baby's nutritional needs.

Why do pregnant women have taste disorders? It is a physiological reaction to protect the fetus. Changes in taste and smell after pregnancy are a physiological reaction that has evolved in humans to protect the fetus. Some pregnant women will subconsciously dislike foods with strong tastes, pungent odors, bitter vegetables and other foods that may harm the fetus, which indirectly causes changes in their taste. The fetus needs it. The taste of pregnant women changes after pregnancy, which is related to the needs of the fetus. Our bodies are very honest. They want to eat what they lack. If a pregnant woman wants to eat a certain food, it may be because the food contains an element that she lacks or that the fetus needs. For example, if women like to eat salty food during pregnancy, it will prompt them to continuously consume water. If they like to eat sour and spicy food, it can stimulate stomach acid and make them more appetizing.
