Post-operative care after breast lumpectomy

Post-operative care after breast lumpectomy

The disease symptoms that women often suffer from are gynecological diseases and breast diseases. Breast disease is a relatively common medical condition. Because women usually breastfeed for a period of time after giving birth, breastfeeding can easily cause breast hyperplasia, mastitis and other diseases. So you must pay attention to it, because usually there may be some objects growing in the breast. Once it occurs, surgical treatment is required. What should you pay attention to during postoperative care after breast lumpectomy?

After breast surgery, the surgical wound needs to be kept dry, the dressings need to be changed regularly, and the stitches need to be removed in a timely manner (see Dressing Changes and Stitch Removal after Breast Surgery for details). For patients discharged with tubes, the drainage volume will be measured at regular intervals every day. The doctor will decide the time for removing sutures and tubes and changing dressings based on the specific circumstances. If there are special circumstances of the wound, you can go to the ward at any time to consult the doctor in this group or the doctor on duty.

Unless there are special circumstances after breast surgery, you need to wear the same underwear as before the operation when getting out of bed to support the breasts and avoid excessive traction on the surgical wound that affects healing.

Avoid strenuous activities within one month after breast surgery.

After breast surgery, you may feel a lump in the surgical area, which may even be larger than the original lump. This is caused by the body's self-repair and surgical scars. Don't be too nervous. Generally, it will slowly absorb, soften and flatten three to six months after surgery.

After breast surgery, you may feel pain in the surgical area, or even pain in the opposite breast, which may be related to breast hyperplasia or postoperative scars.

After breast surgery, patients usually experience blood loss, loss of appetite, decreased digestion and absorption function, and constipation, which can lead to malnutrition and affect the body's recovery after surgery. Intake of high-energy and high-carbohydrate foods can provide patients with sufficient heat energy, reduce protein consumption, prevent hypoglycemia, and protect liver cells from damage by anesthetics. In addition, it can also increase the body's resistance and increase calories to make up for the heat energy consumption caused by insufficient food intake in breast patients after surgery.

It is necessary to consume enough protein after breast surgery. If the diet lacks protein, it will cause malnutrition edema, which is not conducive to postoperative wound healing and disease recovery. A high-protein diet can alleviate excessive protein consumption caused by certain diseases, reduce complications after breast surgery, and promote the recovery of breast patients as quickly as possible.

Pay attention to supplementing high-vitamin diet after breast surgery. Vitamin A can promote tissue regeneration and accelerate wound healing; vitamin K is mainly involved in the coagulation process and can reduce intraoperative and postoperative bleeding. A lack of B vitamins can cause metabolic disorders, affecting wound healing and tolerance; vitamin C can reduce capillary permeability, reduce bleeding, and promote tissue regeneration and wound healing. Therefore, breast patients must eat more fruits (or fruit foods), vegetables (or vegetable foods) rich in vitamins, or take vitamin supplements before surgery.

After breast surgery, you should combine work and rest, avoid excessive fatigue, participate in appropriate physical activities, and enhance your own immune function.

After breast surgery, you should have a harmonious sex life and not be indifferent to it in order to maintain the hormone level in the body and the physiological regulation of breast tissue.

After breast surgery, avoid eating blood-activating foods, such as ginseng, American ginseng, Korean ginseng, etc. Avoid spicy and stimulating foods, such as ginger, garlic, leek, pepper, chili, etc. Avoid alcohol and greasy, meaty, heavy, stale, moldy and other foods.

You should receive regular professional checkups after breast surgery. Clinical examination and related tests. Once you find that your original breast disease has recurred, you should seek treatment immediately and do not delay treatment. Especially for those who are planning to have a baby, a checkup is necessary before pregnancy.

Regular breast self-examination is required after breast surgery. Breast self-examination should be done once a month after the age of 20. When checking, apply even force, so that your fingers can touch the ribs. If you find any nodules or lumps, you need to go to the hospital for further examination.

Pay attention to breast cleaning and care after breast surgery. Give your breasts special attention during your daily shower.
