Why do I have back pain during my period?

Modern women have to bear the same pressure and life stress as men, so there are not a few women who suffer from menstrual pain. The pain and soreness in the waist during menstruation is generally called dysmenorrhea. Some women suffer from menstrual pain and are unable to get out of bed during their period, let alone work. Lower back pain during menstruation is generally divided into primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea. Let’s discuss what causes lower back pain during menstruation to facilitate symptomatic and problem-oriented treatment.

1. Primary dysmenorrhea causes menstrual waist pain. In most cases, it is caused by psychological factors. Primary dysmenorrhea mostly occurs in young girls. The young girl's uterus is underdeveloped or there are other uterine abnormalities, which leads to irregular menstruation; some women have genetic factors. Usually, the mother has dysmenorrhea, and most of the daughters often have symptoms of lower back pain during menstruation. For low back pain caused by primary dysmenorrhea, you should pay attention to physiological education, improve physical fitness, avoid excessive exercise, avoid cold food, and eliminate the mental state of anxiety during menstruation. You can apply hot compresses and massage appropriately. If the low back pain is severe, you can take painkillers as prescribed by your doctor.

2. Secondary dysmenorrhea refers to menstrual pain that occurs a certain period of time after a girl's menarche. There are various reasons for low back pain caused by secondary dysmenorrhea. There may be endometriosis, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, adenomyosis and uterine malformation. There are also many women who experience menstrual low back pain after having an IUD placed or having an abortion. These women need to go to a regular hospital for a comprehensive examination and symptomatic treatment.

After excluding the possibility of multifunctional diseases of the urinary system, the general menstrual low back pain can be relieved. Women should avoid eating cold foods during menstruation or even a week before menstruation, apply appropriate heat during menstruation, and drink brown sugar ginger water. Paying attention to physical exercise to enhance immunity during the non-menstrual period and paying attention to the hygiene of sexual life can effectively prevent the occurrence of low back pain during menstruation.
