How does amnionitis develop?

Pregnancy is a big event for the family. After pregnancy, regular prenatal checkups are required to monitor the child's development at regular intervals to ensure good birth and upbringing. However, no matter how careful you are, there will always be some small accidents. For example, many pregnant women will suffer from amnionitis. Amnionitis is generally caused by infection. It is best to terminate the pregnancy when suffering from this disease, otherwise it will affect both the pregnant woman and the fetus. This article introduces the relevant content, let’s take a look.

Diagnostic criteria for amnionitis

Usually the first sign of chorioamnionitis is a tachycardia in the pregnant woman (tachycardia can also be caused by dehydration, medication, low blood pressure or anxiety, but these factors can be reflected in the doctor's diagnosis report), as well as a body temperature of 37-9°C and common uterine sensitivity. If the membrane ruptures, the amniotic fluid will have a putrid odor. If intact, the cervix can cause vaginal discharge to have a foul odor. Laboratory tests show that the number of white blood cells (the amount the body makes in response to infection) also increases. The fetus will be positioned lower in the overall physiological outline due to discomfort. Neonates are at higher risk for infection (which can be treated with antibiotics) and may also result in low APGAR values.

Early diagnosis of chorioamnionitis is difficult. There is currently no specific method, but once chorioamnionitis occurs, it is considered that the pregnancy should be terminated. Therefore, it should be diagnosed as early as possible.

What harm does excessive amniotic fluid in pregnant women have on the fetus?

The impact of excessive amniotic fluid is great. Excessive amniotic fluid often leads to pregnancy poisoning, which is often manifested as hypertension, edema, proteinuria, and in severe cases, convulsions and coma may occur, threatening the lives of expectant mothers and babies. If there is too much amniotic fluid, the fetus will be more active, which may lead to malposition of the fetus, excessive expansion of the uterus, and excessive pressure, which may easily cause premature birth. After rupture of the membrane, if a large amount of amniotic fluid flows out, the pressure in the cavity will suddenly drop, which may cause umbilical cord prolapse and endanger the life of the fetus.

Perhaps the most common one is chorioamnionitis. There seems to be no unified standard for diagnosis. The above content only provides a reference, or it is only part of the reference for diagnosis. It is worth reminding that if the disease is confirmed, the pregnancy may need to be terminated because the disease is very harmful to the child and the pregnant woman, but it also depends on the severity of the disease.
