What to do if you have onychomycosis during breastfeeding

Onychomycosis is a very serious infectious disease. As the saying goes, if one person gets onychomycosis, it can infect two people. Onychomycosis is a disease caused by a fungus. If you have onychomycosis during breastfeeding, first of all, do not breastfeed your child to avoid infecting the child. However, you should try to take some medicines with less hormones to avoid causing more serious conditions in your body. In daily life, we should pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene to avoid the influence of bacteria and fungi.

Try not to treat onychomycosis during breastfeeding. Because when treating onychomycosis, the drugs can cause obvious harm to the human body, especially to breastfeeding women. Some drugs can enter the breast milk through the blood circulation and may have a certain impact on the child after breastfeeding, especially some antifungal drugs, such as itraconazole or terbinafine. These drugs can enter the baby's body through the blood circulation. Try to avoid using medication during breastfeeding, and wait until after breastfeeding to start antifungal treatment. If the symptoms of onychomycosis are not too serious, and there are only some mild free-edge onychomycosis symptoms, you can temporarily use a small amount of clotrimazole cream, and it will not be a big problem.

Onychomycosis, commonly known as "onychomycosis", refers to a disease caused by dermatophytes invading the nail plate or under the nail. Onychomycosis is a nail infection caused by fungi such as dermatophytes, yeasts and non-dermatophyte fungi. There are two common types of nail fungus: ① Fungal leukonychia (superficial white onychomycosis). In this type, the lesions are limited to a piece of the nail surface or its tip; ② Subungual fungal disease is divided into distal lateral type, proximal subungual type and superficial white type. In this type, the lesions start from the sides or distal end of the nail, and then infection occurs under the nail plate.

Patients with diabetes and low immunity are prone to the disease, and nail damage is a predisposing factor, especially damage to the nail plate and cuticle during manicure, which often serves as an entry point for pathogenic bacteria. The pathogenic fungi are dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, Microsporum), Candida (Candida) and non-dermatophyte fungi. Among them, Trichophyton rubrum is the most common, followed by Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton interdigitalis, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis and other dermatophytes. The most common Candida species is Candida albicans, but other species such as Candida glabrata and Candida parapsilosis can also cause disease. In addition, filamentous fungi such as Columnar spores, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Scopulariopsis, Alternaria, and Fusarium can also cause onychomycosis.
