Can a pregnant woman with anemia have a caesarean section?

Can a pregnant woman with anemia have a caesarean section?

Many women suffer from anemia because they have menstruation every month. Although menstruation is a normal physiological phenomenon for women, it may cause imbalance of qi and blood in women. Before choosing a caesarean section, women should undergo various examinations to rule out any physical conditions that are not suitable for caesarean section. So for a pregnant woman with anemia, can she have a caesarean section?

Pregnant women with anemia can have a caesarean section. However, before a caesarean section, the pregnant woman's anemia will be corrected first. Anemia can be treated by taking iron supplements. If the anemia is severe before delivery, the hemoglobin will be supplemented through blood transfusion before a caesarean section is performed.

The dangers of cesarean section for anemic pregnant women: Anemic pregnant women already have less blood, and they will bleed some during the operation. The hemoglobin level after the operation is even lower, which is not conducive to the recovery of the wound and the body. The weakness of the body after the operation can easily cause infection, and the child may also be anemic.

Pregnant women must pay attention to eating more iron-rich foods to prevent anemia during pregnancy. Once they find that they are anemic, they should receive relevant treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Common methods include diet therapy and taking iron supplements.

Caesarean section precautions

Things to note before cesarean section

1. A series of examinations should be conducted before a caesarean section, including the pregnant woman's body temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, past medical history, current physical examination results, blood type, blood routine, blood coagulation, liver function, HIV virus, hepatitis C, syphilis, electrocardiogram, and B-ultrasound to determine the health status of the pregnant woman and fetus and whether she is breastfeeding after delivery.

2. Have a light dinner the night before surgery and do not eat after midnight to ensure intestinal cleanliness and reduce intraoperative infection. (No food or water is allowed from 6-8 hours before surgery).

Precautions after cesarean section

1. After a caesarean section, pregnant women should not lie flat on their backs. They should lie on their sides with their bodies at an angle of 20-30 degrees to the bed, and place a quilt or blanket behind their backs to reduce the vibration and pulling pain of the incision when the body moves. Because the anesthetic effect disappears after the operation, the mother will feel pain in the wound, and the supine position is most sensitive to the pain of uterine contraction.

2. After consciousness is restored after the operation, you should engage in limb activities. After 24 hours, you should practice turning over, sitting up, and getting out of bed and moving slowly. This can enhance gastrointestinal motility, expel gas as soon as possible, and prevent intestinal adhesion and thrombosis that may cause embolism in other parts of the body.

3. You should fast within 6 hours after the operation. You should not eat too much when you eat, otherwise it will cause abdominal distension and increased abdominal pressure, which is not conducive to recovery. You should gradually increase your food intake in the later stage. You can first eat some liquid food such as stewed eggs, egg drop soup, lotus root powder, etc., and then eat some porridge, crucian carp soup and other semi-liquid food on the second day after the operation.

4. After the operation, the mother should urinate and defecate in time according to her usual habits. Because if the mother is afraid of pain and dare not push, and urinates and defecates are not discharged in time, it is easy to cause urinary retention and fecal constipation.

5. After the operation, pay attention to the cleanliness of the abdominal incision and perineum. Do not scratch when it itches, and do not scrub with unclean items.

6. It is not advisable to have sexual intercourse within 42 days after a caesarean section. Even if you have sexual intercourse after the lochia is completely clean, you should take contraceptive measures to avoid pregnancy.
