How to relieve acid reflux and heartburn in pregnant women

Acid reflux and heartburn are common conditions during pregnancy. Although it will not cause any harm to the pregnant woman's body and the fetus in her belly, it will make the pregnant woman feel very uncomfortable, which may affect her mood and appetite. So, how can pregnant women reduce acid reflux and heartburn?

1. Eat a healthy diet

Don't eat too much to avoid increasing the pressure in the stomach and lifting the diaphragm. Eat smaller and more frequent meals, slow down your eating pace, and eat smaller and more frequent meals.

Especially dinner should not be too full and too late. It is best to eat within 2 to 3 hours before going to bed so that you have enough time to digest and absorb the food.

Avoid foods and drinks that may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, including soda, alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, acidic fruits, meat dishes, savory foods, spicy foods, greasy, fried or high-fat foods.

Chew a piece of bubble gum after eating. Chewing gum can stimulate the secretion of saliva, which is helpful to neutralize gastric juice.

2. Sleep quality posture

When sleeping at night, use more pillows or wedge-shaped cushions to raise the upper body. Raise the foot of the bed at the head by 15 to 20 centimeters, and raise the upper body by 10 to 15 degrees, which can effectively reduce esophageal reflux. However, it is not suitable to use a high pillow to lift the entire upper body, because raising the pillow cannot lift the entire upper body. On the contrary, it can cause a bend between the esophagus and the stomach, which affects the flow of food into the stomach, aggravates esophageal reflux, and aggravates heartburn.

3. Loose clothing

To relieve esophageal reflux, pregnant women should wear loose clothes, and avoid tight clothes that squeeze the waist and abdomen. Defecation should be smooth, and respiratory infections should be actively prevented to avoid increasing abdominal pressure.

4. No need to smoke

Don't smoke. Smoking not only causes many serious health problems, but also increases gastric secretion. In order to achieve the best results, women who have the habit of smoking should quit smoking and drinking when preparing for pregnancy. But if you are still smoking during pregnancy and feel you can't quit, please consult your doctor to see if she can help you find a suitable way to quit smoking.
