Rabies vaccine is one of the more common vaccines in people's daily lives. It mainly reduces the possibility of contracting rabies. Because many times in life we are scratched or bitten by animals due to our own negligence, and we need to get a rabies vaccine to reduce the possibility of contracting rabies. Many people know that the vaccine does not have much impact on people’s bodies, but it does have some effects. Can I breastfeed after getting the rabies vaccine? In fact, whether or not to get rabies vaccine during breastfeeding and pregnancy is a very contradictory issue. Not getting rabies vaccine can easily lead to the onset of the disease and affect the body, while getting rabies vaccine may harm the baby's development. Regarding the question of whether breastfeeding and pregnant women can get rabies vaccine and whether the vaccine will affect the fetus, there are no contraindications to rabies vaccination. There is currently no evidence that rabies immunoglobulin or rabies vaccine will cause fetal developmental abnormalities. Given that rabies is almost 100% fatal, rabies prevention during pregnancy is not a contraindication, and there is no problem using rabies immunoglobulin or rabies vaccine on infants and young children. The Ministry of Health also stated in its answers to "Frequently Asked Questions about Rabies Prevention and Control" that there are no contraindications to rabies vaccination after being bitten. So far, there have been no reports of fetal malformations or abnormalities caused by rabies vaccination, so pregnant and breastfeeding women should also receive rabies vaccination immediately after being bitten. However, vaccination should be postponed for pregnant women who have pre-exposure immunity. Regarding the issue of rabies vaccination for pregnant and lactating women, if a woman is bitten by a dog after she becomes pregnant, she should first determine whether the dog is a rabies dog. If it is, then she must be vaccinated against rabies. However, if it is not, it is recommended to be cautious because any vaccine may have side effects, especially for pregnant women. As for the question of whether getting rabies vaccine during breastfeeding will affect breastfeeding, most doctors also say that breastfeeding is possible during the rabies vaccination period and there will be no impact. However, some doctors believe that breastfeeding should be suspended, so there is still controversy on this issue. New mothers who are worried can choose to suspend breastfeeding. It is also recommended that women who are preparing to become pregnant, are already pregnant, or are breastfeeding should be careful to prevent bites from cats and dogs. If they have small animals such as cats or dogs at home, they can also temporarily leave them at other people's homes. Staying away from cats and dogs during pregnancy can also reduce the chance of perinatal infection. |
