Is it normal to be sexually indifferent during breastfeeding?

Some women will experience sexual apathy during the breastfeeding period, which means that their sexual desire will decrease. This situation often leads to conflicts between couples. There are many reasons for sexual apathy, some of which are due to hormones. With good conditioning, this situation will generally improve, but you should also be alert to some reproductive system diseases. It is best to go to the hospital for some examinations in time.

1. Starting sexual life too early after childbirth

After giving birth, women will experience changes in their entire body and reproductive system, which will have a certain inhibitory effect on sexual desire. It usually takes two months after giving birth for all organs to return to normal, and only then can they begin sexual intercourse. If sexual intercourse begins too early after childbirth, it can easily lead to sexual aversion in the wife, thus inducing sexual frigidity.

2. Postpartum hormone changes

After childbirth, progesterone and estrogen drop dramatically. The anterior pituitary gland begins to secrete hormones that stimulate milk secretion. Because the lack of estrogen can cause changes in the female vagina, which in turn can cause difficulties in sexual intercourse and affect sexual desire. It is said that in the absence of sex hormones, the vaginal wall will become thinner because estrogen will also have a certain impact on the blood flow supplying the soft tissue surrounding the vagina. Without a normal blood supply, lubrication cannot occur normally, making it difficult for sexual intercourse to proceed normally.

3. Changes in reproductive organs

After childbirth, changes that occur in female reproduction include: changes in the muscles inside the vagina; tears or episiotomy at the perineum, causing varying degrees of damage to the perineum; the vaginal opening becomes wider; the pelvic ligaments become wider, and the uterus becomes slightly larger than before. Because the vagina will undergo varying degrees of changes after childbirth, the friction during sexual intercourse will be weakened, which will have a certain impact on the quality of sexual life. As long as you pay attention to postpartum recovery exercises, a woman's vagina can generally return to its previous level 3 months after delivery.

4. Reproductive system diseases

Many women are left with scars due to tearing of the vulva and vagina during childbirth, which reduces the sexual sensitivity of the vulva or causes pain due to vaginal narrowing; some experience discomfort due to postpartum complications of endometriosis or chronic pelvic inflammatory disease; and some women suffer from vulvar itching, increased leucorrhea, burning pain, etc. due to fungal or Trichomonas vaginitis. All of these will suppress sexual desire to varying degrees and affect the sex life between couples.

5. Improper contraceptive measures

Some female friends do not take effective contraceptive measures after giving birth. When having sex, people are always worried about getting pregnant. In addition, some couples suddenly interrupt their sex life during intercourse to achieve the purpose of contraception, which may lead to sexual apathy over time.

6. Overwork

After giving birth, many women often focus their energy on their children and lack interest in sex itself. After giving birth, a woman transforms from a wife into a mother, which consumes a lot of energy both mentally and physically. For example, in daily life, you have to breastfeed the baby, coax the baby to sleep, and sometimes get up in the middle of the night to make milk powder. The change in the pace of life seriously affects the biological clock, and a large amount of physical exertion affects the sex life. If at this time the husband stands idly by regarding housework and children, shows no concern, understanding or help, and leaves his wife busy all by herself, it will cause her to be overworked and prone to sexual apathy.

7. Psychological reasons

There are many reasons that affect sex life. In addition to physiological reasons, the psychological adjustment of both husband and wife is also very important. The husband should be more considerate and tolerant towards his wife.
