2-minute self-test: Are you suitable for myopia surgery?

In order to be responsible for the eyes of myopic patients, doctors will not perform myopia surgery on you just because you want it. If you belong to the following 3 types of people, then you may not be suitable for myopia surgery for the time being. Come and test yourself!

1. Under 18 years old, myopia is not stable

Generally speaking, it is recommended that minors under the age of 18 do not undergo myopia surgery. Minors' bodies are still growing and developing, and their vision may not be stable. In this case, if they undergo myopia surgery, it is possible that after the surgery corrects their existing vision, new myopia will occur due to normal growth and development of the body.

Of course, minors are not an absolute contraindication for myopia surgery. If myopia surgery is needed for some special reasons, such as college entrance examination, career choice, high refractive anisometropia, some corneal diseases that require laser treatment, etc., surgery can be considered after full communication with the doctor and on the basis of full understanding of the patient and family members.

2. Eye and body diseases that are not suitable for myopia surgery

Zhao Bo, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that some eye diseases are also absolute contraindications for myopia surgery, such as keratoconus or other types of corneal ectasia, severe dry eyes, active eye lesions or infections, serious ocular adnexal lesions, uncontrolled glaucoma, and cataracts that affect vision.

The patient has systemic connective tissue diseases or autoimmune diseases, severe psychological or psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety and depression, or suffers from diseases that make it difficult to cooperate with examinations and surgery, such as epilepsy, hysteria, etc.

3. Pregnant and lactating women

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to have myopia surgery for the time being because their hormones are different from usual. But generally speaking, you can have the surgery normally after the breastfeeding period.
