What causes postpartum groin pain?

Groin pain is a relatively common health problem, especially for women who have just given birth. They are more likely to have such symptoms. Groin pain can also cause great problems for female patients. If not treated in time, it may even affect the mood and physical health of the mother. So, what are the causes and treatments for postpartum groin pain? Please see the introduction below!

1. Overview

Groin pain is a common clinical symptom. The groin is a triangular area on both sides of the lower abdomen. Its medial boundary is the outer edge of the rectus abdominis muscle, its upper boundary is the horizontal line from the anterior superior iliac spine to the outer edge of the rectus abdominis muscle, and its lower boundary is the inguinal ligament. This area is relatively weak. A variety of diseases can cause groin pain, the most common of which are inguinal lymphadenitis, gynecological diseases, varicocele and other diseases. Timely treatment can achieve good therapeutic effects.

2. Causes

A variety of conditions can cause groin pain. It is more common in males, with a male to female ratio of about 15:1. The highest incidence rate is in infants, young children and the elderly.

1. Inguinal lymphadenitis

Local groin pain is mainly caused by infection of the lower limb lymphatic system.

2. Inguinal hernia

There may be local pulling pain after an inguinal hernia occurs.

3. Varicocele

Symptoms include a distended pain in the scrotum and possibly pulling pain in the groin.

4. Bone and muscle diseases

Local muscle strain, ligament strain, and nerve damage can cause local pain all year round.

5. Gynecological diseases

Ovarian cyst pedicle torsion, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. can cause groin pain.

6. Herniated disc, piriformis syndrome

It can also cause pain in the lower back and lower limbs, which may radiate to the groin area.

Treatment

Treatment is directed at the underlying disorder.

1. Inguinal lymphadenitis

The main treatment is antibiotics, such as amoxicillin, and drink plenty of water. If the lymph nodes continue to swell and ooze pus, surgical treatment is required.

2. Inguinal hernia

Most patients require surgical treatment. If the patient is a child under 2 years old, or an elderly and frail patient with other serious diseases who cannot tolerate surgery, a hernia belt can be used to prevent hernia protrusion and groin pain.

3. Injury

Early prevention and treatment of local injuries, lumbar disc herniation, piriformis syndrome, etc.
