What are the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy

A woman’s pregnancy is something that should make both men and women happy, because a child of their own is about to come into this world. However, when women are pregnant, many pregnancy conditions may occur due to their own physical conditions. One of these conditions is called ectopic pregnancy, which has a very high incidence rate. Especially for women with ovarian problems, the incidence rate of ectopic pregnancy is particularly high in them. So what are the symptoms if it is an ectopic pregnancy?

What are the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is divided into: fallopian tube pregnancy, ovarian pregnancy, abdominal pregnancy, broad ligament pregnancy, and cervical pregnancy depending on the location of the fertilized egg implantation outside the uterine cavity. Different types of ectopic pregnancy also correspond to different symptoms.

Symptoms of different types of ectopic pregnancy:

Tubal pregnancy: Tubal pregnancy accounts for about 95% of ectopic pregnancies, among which ampulla pregnancy is the most common, accounting for about 78%, followed by isthmus and fimbria pregnancy, and interstitial pregnancy is less common. The typical symptoms of tubal pregnancy are abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding after menstruation. The patient may also have an abdominal mass or even fainting and shock.

Ovarian pregnancy: Ovarian pregnancy refers to the implantation and development of the fertilized egg in the ovary, with an incidence rate of 1:7000-1:50000. The clinical manifestations of ovarian pregnancy are very similar to those of fallopian tube pregnancy, with the main symptoms being amenorrhea, abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding.

Abdominal pregnancy: Abdominal pregnancy refers to the location of the embryo or fetus in the abdominal cavity outside the fallopian tubes, ovaries and broad ligaments. Patients experience amenorrhea and early pregnancy reactions, and most have symptoms of unexplained anemia in early pregnancy, accompanied by abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. Then the vaginal bleeding stops and the abdomen gradually enlarges. Pregnant women often feel abdominal pain during fetal movement, and the symptoms gradually worsen as the fetus grows.

Cervical pregnancy: When the fertilized egg implants and develops in the cervical canal, it is called cervical pregnancy. The main symptoms are painless vaginal bleeding or bloody discharge. The amount of bleeding usually increases from a little to a lot, but it can also be intermittent heavy vaginal bleeding.

Treatment of ectopic pregnancy

Common ectopic pregnancies include fallopian tube pregnancy, ovarian pregnancy, etc. All ectopic pregnancies should be treated in hospital once confirmed, so that they can be observed at any time and timely rescue can be performed if the ectopic pregnancy causes excessive internal bleeding. Common treatments for ectopic pregnancy include laparotomy, laparoscopic surgery, non-surgical treatment, intravenous chemotherapy, etc. Various treatments have different effects and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Generally speaking, ectopic pregnancy is usually treated with surgical methods.

1. Drug treatment of ectopic pregnancy

Conservative treatment for ectopic pregnancy: mainly drug treatment. When an ectopic pregnancy is confirmed, drugs should be used to cause the gestational sac to wither and then be expelled from the body. It is mainly suitable for young patients with early ectopic pregnancy who want to preserve their fertility. It is generally believed that this method can be adopted if the following conditions are met:

① The diameter of the fallopian tube pregnancy mass is <3cm.

② The tubal pregnancy did not rupture or miscarriage.

③No obvious internal bleeding.

④Blood HCG<2000U/L.

This method of treating ectopic pregnancy seems simple and easy. It can easily relieve the trouble of ectopic pregnancy without surgery. Therefore, the conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy is more effective. However, conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy sometimes involves certain risks, because if the drugs fail to kill the embryo, the embryo will grow larger and larger, and the fallopian tube may rupture and cause heavy bleeding, and may even endanger the life of the woman with ectopic pregnancy.

2. Surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy

Conservative surgery

At present, the principle of ectopic pregnancy is mainly surgical treatment, among which there are two methods of surgical treatment: one is to remove the affected fallopian tube; the other is to retain the affected fallopian tube, that is, conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy. Conservative surgery is suitable for young women who want to have children, especially those whose contralateral fallopian tube has been removed or has obvious lesions.

Laparoscopic surgery

Currently, the most advanced treatment for ectopic pregnancy is laparoscopic technology, commonly known as the "keyhole" surgery. It only requires three 1 cm puncture holes in the abdominal wall to complete the surgery that originally required a laparotomy.

Warm reminder: It is recommended that couples choose a time when both of them are in a good mood and in good physical condition to become pregnant. If female friends are not considering becoming a mother for the time being, they need to take contraceptive measures.
