Can uterine coldness cause irregular menstruation?

Uterine cold is a term used in traditional Chinese medicine. Many women are prone to uterine cold due to cold body. So, will cold uterus cause irregular menstruation? Generally speaking, cold uterus will cause irregular menstruation, and many women with cold uterus will also experience dysmenorrhea. If you want to improve the condition of uterine cold, Chinese medicine generally recommends taking medicine for conditioning, and you also need to pay attention to your daily diet.

Gonghan, as the name suggests, is the abbreviation of "cold uterus". There is no such entry in the literature of traditional Chinese medicine, formal textbooks, or related monographs on Chinese gynecology. However, "uterine cold" has become a popular word that is deeply rooted in people's minds and is often widely used in today's daily life. In particular, most infertile women have deep feelings and understandings of this word from different channels. Therefore, it is necessary to sort out the meaning of this word. "Gong" can refer to the "uterus" in Western medicine, or the "baogong" in traditional Chinese medicine. The latter refers more to the female internal reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries) and their functions. Therefore, understanding the "palace" here as "baogong" will help to better understand the meaning of uterine cold and the disease it refers to. "Cold" is a common cause of disease in traditional Chinese medicine. Excessive wading in water, being attacked by the cold evil of nature, and eating cold food can all cause external "cold" to invade the human body and stagnate in the meridians, internal organs, and of course the uterus. This kind of cold is mostly "real cold". On the other hand, "cold" in traditional Chinese medicine also refers to the accumulation of pathological cold products in the meridians and internal organs of the human body. This pathological cold product can be caused by the deficiency of spleen and kidney yang in the human body, which is unable to normally transport water and moisture, causing the cold air to stagnate in the meridians and internal organs of the human body. This kind of cold is mostly "deficiency cold". Therefore, "uterine cold" in a broad sense is a general term for a series of diseases caused by the stagnation of external cold evil or internal cold caused by spleen and kidney yang deficiency in the female uterus, which damages the function of the uterus.

It is unique to traditional Chinese medicine and its pathogenesis can therefore be explained by the pathogenesis theory of traditional Chinese medicine. Generally speaking, premature birth, miscarriage and other reasons may cause women to have congenital spleen and kidney yang deficiency, which cannot properly transport and transform the water and moisture in the body, so internal cold accumulates. It may also be due to acquired reasons such as wading in water, living in a cold place for a long time, using air conditioning during menstruation, eating cold food or being directly attacked by cold evil in the cold winter, etc., and external cold evil may condense in the uterus and cause the disease. Because the uterus refers to the female internal reproductive organ, various gynecological diseases can be seen, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, delayed menstruation, oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, vaginitis, miscarriage, postpartum abdominal pain, postpartum lochia, infertility, etc.

Due to different causes and different stages of the disease, uterine cold can have many different clinical manifestations in women's menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding, miscellaneous diseases, etc. For example, the manifestations of menstrual diseases include: scanty and delayed menstruation, amenorrhea, menstrual edema, menstrual diarrhea, dysmenorrhea; the manifestations of pregnancy diseases may include: threatened abortion, habitual abortion, ectopic pregnancy, etc.; the manifestations of lactation diseases may include: prolonged lochia, postpartum abdominal pain, etc.; the manifestations of gynecological miscellaneous diseases may include: chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, vaginitis, infertility, etc. Other systemic manifestations of coldness determined by traditional Chinese medicine may include cold pain in the lower abdomen, pain relieved by heat, fear of cold, cold hands and feet, sore and cold waist, loss of libido, loose stools, pale tongue, white tongue coating, and deep and moist pulse.
