Do uterine fibroids bleed?

Uterine fibroids are a relatively serious gynecological disease that is difficult to cure quickly. The incidence of uterine fibroids is very high, and many middle-aged women may suffer from uterine fibroids. The location of the uterus of patients with uterine fibroids is very different from that of normal women. If the uterine fibroids are severe, many other complications will occur and even affect women's future pregnancy. So, will uterine fibroids bleed?

1. Will uterine fibroids bleed?

As a common and relatively serious gynecological disease, uterine fibroids can indeed cause bleeding. When uterine fibroids grow to a certain size, when the fibroids are too large, they will cause pelvic bleeding, and vaginal bleeding will occur when the blood flow is too strong. However, not all patients with uterine fibroids will experience bleeding.

Uterine fibroids include subserosal uterine fibroids, intramural uterine fibroids and submucosal uterine fibroids. Submucosal uterine fibroids can affect menstruation, causing increased and continuous menstrual flow, which is heavy vaginal bleeding. This is very dangerous and surgical treatment must be performed as soon as possible in this case.

2. Causes of vaginal bleeding caused by uterine fibroids

1. Intramyometrial fibroids can cause excessive menstruation and prolonged bleeding due to the enlargement of the uterine cavity and the increase of endometrial area;

2. Fibroids hinder uterine contraction or affect blood circulation, causing chronic pelvic congestion and continuous bleeding;

3. Uterine fibroids combined with endometrial hyperplasia or polyp formation with anovulatory ovaries leading to menorrhagia

4. Submucosal fibroids can cause excessive menstruation, excessive frequency, continuous menstruation or irregular bleeding due to the increase of mucosal area, surface ulcers and infection, local congestion, etc.;

5. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease can lead to congestion and increased menstruation;

6. Irregular menstruation during menopause. Generally speaking, bleeding caused by uterine fibroids is mainly in the form of increased menstruation. Intermenstrual bleeding is uncommon in simple fibroids. If it occurs, it often indicates complications such as malignant transformation, polyps, submucosal fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, etc. Therefore, if intermenstrual bleeding is seen, further examination should be conducted to rule out malignant transformation.
