Poor ovarian function and successful IVF

Poor ovarian function and successful IVF

In our lives, many women may not have very good ovarian function. At this time, the ovaries of women cannot function normally, which will seriously affect the ovulation function of women. Therefore, when they are diagnosed with infertility, they will want to do IVF. And IVF must be done with some drugs that promote ovulation. So, can IVF be successful if the ovarian function is not good?

1. What is “poor ovarian function”? Generally speaking, as long as ovulation occurs, pregnancy is possible;

2. The success rate of test tube babies is a concern for people who are preparing to undergo test tube baby treatment. From the birth of test-tube babies more than 20 years ago to today, human assisted reproductive technology has made great progress. Especially in recent years, due to the maturity of various technologies, including the improvement of cell culture fluid and the rich experience of medical staff, the success rate of "test tube" babies has gradually increased worldwide, from the original 20%-25% to 60% or even higher.

The success rate of test tube babies depends on many factors, including endocrine and laboratory conditions, the technical level of the technicians, and of course the patient's age, the conditions of the patient's uterus and ovaries, and whether there are other diseases, etc. These are all factors that affect the success rate. For example, the influence of the woman’s age is the biggest influencing factor. The success rate of test tube babies for women between 25 and 35 years old is higher than the average level of 30%-40%. Some can reach 50% or even higher. However, after the age of 35, the success rate gradually decreases, reaching only about 20% at the age of 40. The reason is that with age, the quality and quantity of eggs decrease.

Poor ovarian function will affect the quality of follicles, and the quality of the male's sperm will also affect the success rate. It is recommended to go to a regular infertility hospital for a comprehensive examination and symptomatic treatment before getting pregnant.

In order for an IVF embryo to grow and develop after it implants in a woman's uterus, the ovaries need to secrete sufficient hormone levels to maintain it. Therefore, the chances of IVF success for patients with poor ovarian function are not very high.
