What are the symptoms of breast cysts?

1. The initial symptoms of breast cysts are generally breast masses, which are more common on one side, located in the periphery of the breast outside the areola area, are round or oval in shape, have clear boundaries, a smooth surface, are slightly movable, and are mildly tender to the touch. The diameter is usually 2 to 3 cm, and there is generally no enlarged axillary lymph nodes.

2. Breast cysts may be infected and lead to acute mastitis or breast abscesses. If there is no secondary infection, it may exist for a long time. The contents of the cyst will become thicker, and over time, the water in the cyst will be absorbed, causing the cyst to harden.

3. The X-ray manifestations of simple breast cysts are round or oval dense shadows with neat edges and uniform density. Because the cyst squeezes the surrounding fat tissue, a "translucent halo" often appears around the cyst wall; the density of the cyst is similar to or slightly denser than that of the breast gland. Single cysts are usually round; multiple cysts are usually oval, and are more common on both sides.

4. Milk cyst, also known as milk retention cyst, is less common than simple cyst. It is mainly due to blockage of a duct during lactation, causing milk stasis and forming a cyst. The X-ray appearance of milk cyst is a round or oval translucent area with a diameter of about 1 to 2 cm, and occasionally more than 3 cm; the cyst density is the same as the fat density; the cyst can be seen in any part of the breast, and it is most common to occur deep in the breast.

Are breast cysts serious?

1. Affect patients' lives. Women who suffer from breast cysts will experience inflammatory reactions such as local redness, swelling, heat, and pain, and swollen lymph nodes in the axillary of the affected side, which will directly affect women's lives and work.

2. Psychological harm. Breast fibroids can have serious impacts on patients' mental and daily lives. Mentally, it can cause patients to experience anxiety, tension, and mood swings. In terms of life, new mothers are unable to feed their babies, which seriously affects the baby's health and also affects the patient's normal life.

3. Cause breast pain. Breast cysts occur when lumps appear. The lumps are round, oval, or ovoid with a smooth surface. They are usually single or multiple, and single lumps grow rapidly. When patients go to the hospital for treatment, they often say that they discovered the breast lumps overnight and often have breast pain before menstruation.
