Why does the vagina itch?

Why does the vagina itch?

In life, many women will have the problem of itching in private parts. Private itching will have a certain impact on the work and life of most female friends. However, many women are embarrassed to speak out about itching in their private parts, and often miss the best time for treatment, causing a minor illness to turn into a major one.

There are many factors that cause vaginal itching. Many times it is because we do not pay attention to hygiene or regular work and rest. Let’s take a closer look at it below.

1. Local causes

1. Special Infection

1) Vaginitis: Trichomonas vaginitis and candidal vaginitis are the most common causes of vulvar itching. Other bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis, pinworm vaginitis, allergic vaginitis, Haemophilus influenzae vaginitis, senile vaginitis, and infantile vaginitis may also cause vulvar itching.

2) Vulvitis: Trichomonas vulvitis, fungal vulvitis, infantile vulvitis, vulvar enterobiasis

3) Cervical infection: cervical erosion, cervicitis (acute cervicitis, chronic cervicitis)

4) Other infections: gonorrhea, non-gonococcal urethritis, nonspecific urethritis

2. Chronic vulvar malnutrition is characterized by severe itching, accompanied by whitening of the vulvar skin. White lesions of the vulva, leukoplakia of the vagina, leukoplakia of the vulva

3. Drug allergy or chemical irritation: Soap, condoms, Sanisol, mercurochrome, etc. can cause contact dermatitis, vulvar neurodermatitis, and vulvar seborrheic dermatitis due to direct irritation or allergy, resulting in itching symptoms.

4. Bad hygiene habits. Not paying attention to the local cleaning of the vulva. Long-term stimulation of the vulva by sebum, sweat, menstruation, vaginal secretions, and even urine and feces can cause itching: using rubber or plastic menstrual belts during menstruation and wearing airtight chemical fiber underwear can induce itching due to the accumulation of damp heat.

5. Other skin lesions, abrasions, common warts, herpes, eczema, and tumors can all cause vulvar itching: vulvar eczema, vulvar psoriasis, interstitial cystitis, localized vulvitis, and desquamative vaginitis syndrome.

6. Vulvar tumors: vulvar Kaposi's sarcoma, vulvar sweat gland adenocarcinoma, vulvar adenosquamous carcinoma, vulvar Paget's disease, vulvar basal cell carcinoma, vulvar invasive squamous cell carcinoma, vulvar melanoma, etc.

2. Systemic causes

1) Diabetes: Due to the irritation of diabetes to the vulvar skin, especially when accompanied by fungal vulvitis, vulvar itching is particularly severe. Many patients first seek medical attention due to itching and redness of the vulva, and are diagnosed with diabetes only after further examination.

2) When patients with chronic diseases such as jaundice, vitamin A deficiency, anemia, leukemia, etc. experience vulvar itching, it is often part of general itching.

3) Vulvar congestion during pregnancy and premenstrual period may occasionally cause vulvar itching and discomfort.

4) Unexplained vulvar pruritus Some patients have very severe vulvar pruritus, but no obvious systemic or local cause can be found. Some people currently believe that it may be related to mental or psychological factors.

How to prevent vaginal itching:

1. Pay attention to menstrual hygiene and keep the vulva clean and dry.

2. Treat chronic inflammation of the reproductive tract, such as cervicitis, vaginitis and other diseases that easily cause excessive leucorrhea.

3. Choose cotton underwear, and don’t wear underwear too tight.

4. When cleaning the vulva every day, it is more appropriate to use a feminine care solution with a weak acid formula. It is best not to use clean water or soap to clean the vulva, and avoid scratching with your hands or instruments.

5. Eat less spicy food.

6. Pay attention to hygiene during sexual intercourse to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
