Will smoking make a woman's breasts smaller?

Many people know that smoking is good for health. We do not recommend people to smoke. In addition, smoking not only affects the lungs of many people, but may also affect the chest, such as causing chest infection or a higher risk of breast cancer.

Smoking is no less harmful to women than drinking.

Information recently released by my country's Ministry of Health shows that the age of smokers in my country is tending to be younger. In 2002, the age of smoking cessation was 4-5 years earlier than in 1984, with the age of smoking cessation for men dropping from 22 to 18 and the age of smoking cessation for women dropping from 25 to 20. Statistics in 1985 showed that the number of smokers in my country exceeded 200 million. Statistics in 2002 showed that the number of smokers in my country had risen to 350 million.

Among the 350 million smokers, women account for 3.08%, which is also a very shocking figure. It is worth noting that women and children suffer the most in a smoking environment. They are exposed to passive smoking every moment, and passive smoking is more harmful than active smoking. According to statistics, 55% of women over the age of 15 suffer from the harm of passive smoking every day, and children lack the ability to protect themselves, so the passive smoking situation is even more serious. A report submitted by the California Environmental Protection Agency shows that passive smoking may cause lung cancer, heart disease, asthma, premature birth and infant death. More serious passive smoking can increase the risk of breast cancer in women under 50 by 68%.

Data show that women who start smoking during adolescence have a 2/3 higher risk of developing breast cancer than non-smoking women. Canadian scientists once followed 1,000 adult women with breast cancer and 1,000 healthy women and found that women who started smoking within five years after their first menstruation had a 69% increased risk of breast cancer compared with non-smoking women. They believe that there are two points worth noting: the amount of estrogen secreted in adolescent girls during their development stage increases relatively, and breast cells are highly sensitive to estrogen; breast cells are also highly sensitive to carcinogens in tobacco during their development stage. The combination of these two factors increases the chance of breast cell canceration, so women who smoke during adolescence have a greater risk of developing breast cancer.

Dr. Karen of the United States conducted a study on 880 women who died of breast cancer and found that the risk of death from breast cancer among smoking women was 25% higher than that among non-smoking women; if the number of cigarettes smoked was 20-29 per day, the mortality rate could reach 32%; if the number of cigarettes smoked exceeded 40, the mortality rate could be close to 75%. American scientists have discovered that women contain a weaker protective gene called NAT2. This gene can produce an enzyme called N-acetyltransferase 2, which ineffectively activates carcinogenic toxins such as aromatic alkaloids in the body and protects the human body. If a woman smokes, the NAT2 gene will be damaged and will no longer be able to protect the human body. It was also found that women carrying the weak type of NAT2 gene who smoke more than one pack a day have a breast cancer incidence rate four times higher than that of non-smoking women. Therefore, the incidence of breast cancer is significantly related to the amount of smoking.
