There is a lump in the breast that hurts when pressed

Breasts are one of the female sexual characteristics. The development and health of the breast is something that every woman is concerned about. The mammary glands can reflect our physical condition. Some women may find lumps in their breasts when they touch them from time to time. They don't hurt when they don't touch them, but they feel very painful when they press them. This situation is quite common. Why does it hurt when you press a lump in the breast?

1. What is the cause of lumps in the breast?

Some patients have a misunderstanding about breast disease. They think that they have lumps in their breasts, but they don’t hurt or itch, so they don’t need to worry about it. They think they are sick only when they feel pain. In fact, this is wrong. On the contrary, clinically, the less painful a breast lump is, the more attention it should be paid. Because painless breast lumps are one of the characteristics of breast cancer.

Generally speaking, inflammatory breast lumps are often accompanied by severe breast pain, and the local lumps are also accompanied by obvious inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain. The lumps may become purulent and ulcerated. After anti-inflammatory treatment and local drainage, the inflammation will subside and the lumps may disappear. Hyperplastic breast lumps are often accompanied by premenstrual breast tenderness. The pain may be relieved after menstruation and the lumps may also shrink. The lumps are often multiple, soft or tough in texture, and may be mild to moderate tenderness locally. They may improve to varying degrees after symptomatic drug treatment.

Breast lumps caused by breast cancer usually do not cause obvious pain or discomfort in the early stages, so they are often already very large when discovered. Pain only occurs in the late stages when local skin ulcers and infiltration occurs. The lumps often progressively increase in size and have the characteristics of malignant lumps such as being single, hard, and having poor mobility. Of course, the lumps of breast fibroadenomas are painless and are often discovered accidentally, but fibroadenomas usually occur in young women and can be multiple. The lumps are mostly regular circles, firm in texture, with clear boundaries and large mobility. The diameter is generally no more than 3 to 4 cm, and skin ulceration and infiltration almost never occur. These are the main differences from malignant tumors.
