The probability of wisdom tooth inflammation during pregnancy

If a pregnant woman has impacted wisdom teeth in her mouth, the chance of wisdom tooth inflammation during pregnancy is still very high, but there is no actual statistical data to show the probability. It can only be said that the chance of wisdom tooth inflammation in pregnant women is much higher than that of ordinary people. Scientific research shows that the gum tissue in the mouth is the target organ of estrogen. With the changes in female hormones in the body during pregnancy, the chance of gingivitis will increase. Especially during pregnancy when the body's resistance is low, due to irritation such as food residues, the gums of the wisdom teeth will have pericoronal inflammation. The inflammation may be mild or severe. In mild cases, it may only manifest as swelling and pain in the gums. In severe cases, there will be swelling and suppuration in the wisdom tooth area, and the mouth opening will be restricted. It is recommended that pregnant women have impacted wisdom teeth removed when preparing for pregnancy.

The probability of wisdom tooth inflammation during pregnancy is about 60%, which mainly depends on the position of the wisdom tooth growth and whether it is impacted. If the growth of wisdom teeth is obstructed and part of the braces has been exposed, the chance of wisdom tooth inflammation will greatly increase, about 80%-90%. This is because the exposed part of the braces is covered with a layer of gums, and gum pockets are formed between the gums and the braces. Food is easily accumulated in this area, causing wisdom tooth inflammation.

During pregnancy, pregnant women's resistance is reduced, which is also a key cause of inflammation. It is recommended that pregnant women remove wisdom teeth as soon as possible before actively preparing for pregnancy. Temporary preservation of non-impacted wisdom teeth can be considered, especially wisdom teeth that are occluded by the opposing teeth. They can be considered not to be removed for the time being because the chance of inflammation is lower.

If a woman develops wisdom tooth inflammation during pregnancy, she should generally not use metronidazole, ibuprofen granules and other anti-infective and analgesic drugs at this time. You can only consider gargling with hydrogen peroxide every day to reduce the growth of bacteria in the oral cavity, and then use recovery solution to locally spray the inflamed wisdom teeth. When the pain is severe, you can also consider taking oral cephalosporin antibiotics for symptomatic and anti-inflammatory treatment, usually cefdinir. And during this period, you must drink plenty of water, eat a light diet, and avoid eating any spicy or irritating foods.
