Can I go out during confinement?

Confinement after childbirth is a unique concept in Chinese fertility culture. After ten months of pregnancy and delivery, you have to take good care of the baby. The traditional confinement period is indeed a special physiological stage, and various precautions have emerged as the times require. For example, you should avoid brushing your teeth within one month after delivery. Otherwise, there is a saying that "giving birth to a baby means losing a tooth". Now it seems that this is unreasonable. However, some practices are truly commendable! Here, let’s discuss the question of whether you can go out during the confinement period.

1. Do you have to stay at home during confinement?

You can go out during the confinement period. Generally speaking, it is not a big deal as long as you keep warm and do not catch a cold when going out. However, it is better for mothers to go out as little as possible during the confinement period. When going out, you should avoid excessive fatigue, make sure to get more rest, strengthen nutrition, and have regular check-ups. If the amount of bleeding is heavy, go to the hospital immediately.

2. What are the precautions for confinement?

1. Ensure you eat well and get enough rest. Since childbirth will cause extreme fatigue to the mother's body and mind, the first thing to do after childbirth is to let the mother have a good sleep, and family members should not disturb her easily. After getting enough sleep, you should eat nutritious and easily digestible food and drink plenty of water;

2. Get out of bed and move around as soon as possible. Generally speaking, women who give birth normally vaginally should get out of bed and walk around the next day. But be careful not to catch cold and avoid direct cold wind. You can also do some simple exercises or postpartum gymnastics every day under the guidance of medical staff to help you recover and maintain a good body shape;

3. One week after delivery, the mother can do some light housework, such as wiping the table, sweeping the floor, etc., but the duration should not be too long, and heavy physical work should not be done, otherwise it is easy to induce uterine bleeding and uterine prolapse;

4. Pay special attention to personal hygiene. During the "confinement period", the perineum of the mother will have more secretions, so the vulva should be cleaned with warm water every day. Change perineal pads frequently and keep the perineum clean and dry;

5. Feed your baby breast milk as early as possible. After childbirth, the breasts are obviously engorged and swollen. Early breastfeeding can stimulate the secretion of milk sweat and promote uterine contraction and recovery.

6. Arrange postpartum sexual life reasonably. If the lochia is not clean or within 42 days after delivery, sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited because the wound in the uterus has not yet completely healed;

7. Have a postpartum check-up on time. About 42 days after delivery, the puerperium will end. The mother should go to the hospital for a postpartum check-up to understand the recovery of her body. In case of any abnormal situation, you can get timely guidance and treatment from a doctor.

If there is nothing important to do during the confinement period, it is better for the mother to go out less. If she has to go out, she must keep warm and try to wear a hat. Furthermore, the mother needs a lot of time to recover, so she should eat more nutritious food and avoid sexual intercourse. You should also maintain a good mood and have your family give you caring care, which will help with your postpartum recovery.
