How many hours after taking the medicine can I breastfeed?

Breastfeeding is a special period. Every move of the mother will affect the quality and safety of the milk, and will also directly affect the health of the baby, so special attention should be paid. Generally, breastfeeding mothers will inevitably feel unwell and need medication to recover. However, some drugs are very harmful to the body. In order to ensure the safety of breast milk, mothers dare not take them easily. In this case, they can arrange the time and space them out to minimize the impact.

1. Hormone drugs should be avoided. There are some drugs that breastfeeding women should strictly avoid. For example, hormonal drugs will affect the baby's own hormone secretion, thus affecting development; contraceptives will reduce milk secretion, and excessive use can also affect the baby's reproductive development, and also greatly reduce the absorption of minerals and protein in breast milk; thyroid function preparations will cause hypothyroidism in infants; bromides will cause rashes and drowsiness in babies; and some drugs can cause poisoning in children.

2. Don't resist antibiotics. Many women easily use antibiotics when they are sick, but they are overly resistant to using antibiotics during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In fact, some antibiotics are relatively safe to use during breastfeeding and can be used according to the doctor's advice. For example, if a breastfeeding woman suffers from bronchitis, mastitis, etc., penicillin can be used as long as the mother and baby are not allergic, but do not use ofloxacin, gentamicin, chloramphenicol, etc. which have relatively large side effects.

3. The dosage must be accurate. Insufficient dosage is not conducive to treating the disease, while excessive dosage may bring side effects. It is recommended that breastfeeding women consult a doctor and use the product according to the dosage specified in the instructions. In order to prevent children from calcium deficiency, some women take calcium and vitamin D supplements from the beginning of pregnancy, but long-term and large-scale supplementation of these two ingredients may lead to hypercalcemia and poisoning.

4. Take medicine after feeding. To ensure the safety of breastfeeding, breastfeeding women are advised to wait until they have finished breastfeeding before taking the medicine, and postpone the next breastfeeding as much as possible.

It should be noted that many medicines can be used safely during breastfeeding, and blindly refusing will affect treatment. Your doctor will assess the risks of the drug, including how much the baby will absorb and how well he or she will handle the dose. Choosing the right type of medication allows you to take it with confidence while ensuring breastfeeding. It is best for breastfeeding women not to buy medicine on their own. If they have any questions about the use of medicine, they should consult a doctor or pharmacist in time.
