These factors will increase the pressure in the inferior vena cava, obstruct blood return, cause the venous wall to expand and twist, form varicose veins, and thus cause edema. When sitting on a chair or sofa, do not cross your legs to avoid obstructing venous return. When sleeping at night, mothers can raise their legs a little to avoid pressure on the vulva.
