Why don't follicles grow?

The failure of follicles to grow is a manifestation of follicular hypoplasia. We all know that it is a normal physiological process for follicles to be discharged only after they mature. Therefore, the failure of follicles to grow is an abnormal condition, which will have different degrees of impact on the human body. There are certain reasons for the failure of follicles to grow, and the failure of follicles to grow can also be treated. So why do follicles fail to grow?

Premature ovarian failure: The failure of some women’s follicles to grow is caused by premature ovarian failure. Women may have normal menstruation in the early stages, and may even have a history of childbearing, but then have infrequent menstruation until they become completely menopausal. In this case, the follicles in the ovaries have been exhausted, and it is impossible to use ovulation-stimulating drugs to make the follicles develop, or even if there are primordial follicles, they do not respond to gonadotropins.

Polycystic ovary syndrome: Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the reasons why follicles fail to grow. Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common reason why women do not ovulate. The characteristics of their ovaries are that the ovaries are enlarged and have multiple small follicles, but they cannot develop to maturity, so drugs are needed to promote follicle development.

Endocrine dysfunction: Impaired regulation of pituitary function by the hypothalamus or abnormal secretion of the ovaries themselves can lead to poor follicular development, such as endocrine diseases such as hyperadrenocortical hyperfunction and hypothyroidism.

For those with poor follicular development, ovulation-inducing drugs can generally be used, and chorionic gonadotropin can also be used. If combined with Chinese medicine, the effect is more ideal. Generally speaking, the infertility treatment effect of biphasic body temperature is better than that of monophasic body temperature. On the basis of syndrome differentiation and treatment, patients with small follicle ovulation cycle and small follicle luteinization cycle can take Chinese medicine conditioning on the fifth day of the menstrual cycle, such as Rehmannia glutinosa, Epimedium, Lycium barbarum, Ligustrum lucidum, Cornus officinalis, Deer Horn Frost, Angelica sinensis, roasted Astragalus membranaceus, etc., while patients with unruptured follicle luteinization cycle should take kidney-tonifying, essence-replenishing, blood-stasis-removing and collateral-draining products before ovulation, which has a better effect.

The normal size of the follicle depends mainly on the diameter of the follicle. Generally speaking, the follicles are round or oval, with a diameter of 18-25mm. Any diameter below or above this range will affect normal ovulation. Ultrasound monitoring shows that the largest follicle appears on the 10th to 16th day of menstruation. The follicle is 20mm in diameter, round in shape, with thin walls, protruding to one side of the ovary, and has good internal sound transmission. Ovulation usually occurs within 10 hours, and ovulation is more common on the 12th to 18th day of menstruation, and a few occur on the 20th to 30th day.

The follicle is the basic reproductive unit of females. The ovarian cortex of the follicle is composed of an oocyte and many small follicular cells around it. According to the morphological and functional changes in the process of follicle development, it can be divided into three stages: primordial follicles, growing follicles and mature follicles.
