Why do I bleed when my period hasn't come?

Why do I bleed when my period hasn't come?

Bleeding occurs before the menstrual period. This is a manifestation of abnormal menstruation and a problem that many women have. Menstrual disorders may be caused by neuroendocrine dysfunction, organic disease or drugs. In addition, abnormal emotions, cold stimulation, excessive dieting, addiction to smoking and drinking, etc. may also cause menstrual disorders.

1. Caused by neuroendocrine dysfunction

The main problem is that the function of the lower hindbrain-stomach-ovary axis is unstable or defective, that is, menstrual disease.

2. Caused by organic disease or drugs

Including local inflammation of the reproductive organs, tumors and developmental abnormalities, malnutrition; intracranial diseases; other endocrine dysfunctions such as thyroid and adrenal cortex dysfunction, diabetes, Sheehan's disease, etc.; liver diseases; blood diseases, etc., the use of drugs to treat mental illnesses; those who use endocrine preparations or intrauterine contraceptive devices may experience irregular menstruation. Certain occupations such as long-distance runners are prone to amenorrhea. In addition, some abnormal bleeding during pregnancy is often mistaken for irregular menstruation.

3. Other reasons

1. Menstrual disorders are not necessarily gynecological diseases

Normal menstruation is an important sign of physical health for mature women. When many women have menstrual disorders, they only consider gynecological diseases such as uterine hypoplasia, acute and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, etc., but ignore looking for causes outside the uterus. They don’t know that many bad habits and factors may also lead to menstrual disorders.

2. Abnormal emotions cause menstrual disorders

Abnormal emotions, long-term mental depression, sulking, or suffering from major mental stimulation and psychological trauma can all lead to menstrual disorders or dysmenorrhea, or amenorrhea. This is because menstruation is formed after the hormones secreted by the ovaries stimulate the endometrium, and the hormones secreted by the ovaries are controlled by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Therefore, any abnormality in the function of the ovaries, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus will affect menstruation.

3. Cold stimulation causes oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea

Irregular daily life: According to research, women exposed to cold stimulation during menstruation will cause excessive contraction of blood vessels in the pelvis, which can cause oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea. Therefore, women should have a regular daily life and avoid excessive fatigue, especially during menstruation, to keep away cold and moisture.

4. Dieting causes irregular menstruation

Expert studies on excessive dieting show that girls need body fat to account for at least 17% of their body weight for menarche to occur, and body fat must reach at least 22% of their body weight to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Excessive dieting can cause the body to consume a large amount of fat and protein due to insufficient energy intake, resulting in estrogen synthesis disorders and obvious deficiency, affecting menstruation, and even causing scanty menstruation or amenorrhea. Therefore, women who pursue a slim figure must not diet blindly.

5. Smoking and drinking cause irregular menstruation

Certain components in tobacco smoke and alcohol can interfere with physiological processes related to menstruation and cause irregular menstruation. Among women who smoke and drink excessively, 25%-32% go to the hospital for treatment due to irregular menstruation. Among women who smoke more than a pack of cigarettes a day or drink more than 100 mg of strong liquor, the incidence of irregular menstruation is three times that of women who do not smoke or drink. Therefore, women should not smoke and drink less.
