I am still bleeding after giving birth for half a month.

The blood that flows out after a normal delivery is generally called lochia. Generally speaking, lochia will be completely discharged from the body within two to six weeks, and the specific time varies from person to person. Therefore, it is normal to still bleed half a month after a normal delivery. At this time, the mother only needs to take certain methods to ensure the hygiene of her private parts and there is no need to worry too much. However, if the lochia is not discharged for a long time, medical treatment is needed!

1. What is postpartum lochia

First of all, as an expectant mother, you should understand certain knowledge about the postpartum period before delivery, and you should also be familiar with postpartum lochia. So what is postpartum lochia? Generally refers to the period after a woman gives birth, when the decidua attached to the placenta begins to fall off, containing necrotic tissue, blood, etc., which are all discharged through the lower body. This excrement has a slight bloody smell and lasts for as short as two weeks or as long as six weeks, with most cases lasting three weeks. The total discharge is between 500 and 1000 ml.

2. How long does it take for lochia to be clean after normal delivery?

The lochia after normal delivery and after caesarean section is different. After normal delivery, under normal circumstances, it will be completely discharged 4-6 weeks after delivery.

In the first few days after delivery, the amount of lochia is relatively large and the color is bright red, so it is called red lochia, also known as bloody lochia, which generally lasts for 3-7 days. After 3-5 days, the amount of blood contained decreases and the lochia turns light red, called serous lochia. 10-14 days after delivery, the lochia is white or light yellow, called white lochia. Normal lochia has a bloody smell, but it is not foul. If there is a foul or fishy smell, it means that the uterus may be infected. For those mothers whose lochia has not been cleared 6 weeks after a normal delivery, this may be related to the mother's physical constitution, whether she is breastfeeding, postpartum diet, rest and nutritional supply.

3. Reasons for continued lochia after normal delivery

If lochia lasts for more than 4-6 weeks and has not been completely discharged, what is the cause? Generally speaking, there are three main reasons:

1. There are tissue residues in the body

There are many reasons why tissue remains in the body, such as uterine malformation, uterine fibroids, or the doctor's poor skills and unskilled techniques, which may result in incomplete removal of pregnancy tissue and lead to partial tissue

Remains in the uterine cavity. At this time, in addition to the unclean lochia, there is also bleeding in varying amounts, with blood clots and a foul odor, and intermittent tenderness in the abdomen.

2. Uterine contractions

Many people say that childbirth is the most painful experience for women. During the childbirth process, excessive uterine contractions can cause physical fatigue. If you fail to get enough rest after giving birth, are weak and sickly, or the delivery takes too long, it will lead to damage of Qi and blood, causing weak uterine contractions and continuous lochia.

3. Uterine cavity infection

In addition to tissue residue, it may also be due to incorrect living habits.

Causes uterine cavity infection. For example, taking a tub bath after delivery, using unclean sanitary napkins, having sex before a full month after delivery, or the operator not sterilizing the operation properly may cause uterine infection. At this time, the lochia has a foul odor, there is tenderness in the abdomen, and it is accompanied by fever. A blood test shows an increase in the total white blood cell count.
