Excessive vaginal discharge

Excessive vaginal discharge

Vaginal secretions are mainly leucorrhea. Although the amount of leucorrhea is not fixed, it will be within a rough range. Under the influence of many factors, the phenomenon of increased leucorrhea will occur, both physiological and caused by disease. Some can be judged based on other physical symptoms, while some require a comprehensive examination to draw a conclusion. If you are uncertain, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Below are the many causes of vaginal discharge.

Causes of increased vaginal discharge

(1) Pathogen infection. The use of contaminated sanitary products allows pathogens to enter the reproductive tract through the vaginal opening, causing infection and increased vaginal discharge.

(2) Trichomonas vaginalis infection. This infection can easily cause an increase in vaginal discharge, accompanied by a foul odor, and itching of the genitals.

(3) Cervical erosion. The trauma of childbirth, changes in sex hormones, or inflammation of the cervix caused by sexual intercourse may lead to cervical erosion and increase the amount of leucorrhea. A small number of women may experience cervical erosion without any cause, that is, congenital cervical erosion, which can also cause increased leucorrhea.

(4) Filterable viral infections of the cervix, vagina, and vulva. Some virus infections can be cured without treatment, such as the virus that causes the common cold. However, virus infections such as condyloma acuminatum often cause increased vaginal discharge.

(5) Candida albicans infection causes increased leucorrhea. Candida albicans has two characteristics: the first is that it has very strong vitality; the second is that it likes moisture. Therefore it is not easy to cure. People who take antibiotics, drugs or adrenal steroids for a long time, as well as pregnant women, diabetics, and women who like to wear tight clothes are more susceptible to infection, and it is not easy to cure once infected.

(6) Atrophic vaginitis. A small number of women have lost both ovaries due to illness or have early menopause or are post-menopausal women. Due to the gradual lack of estrogen in the body, the vaginal wall gradually becomes fragile and susceptible to bacterial infection and inflammation, leading to increased leucorrhea. It is also possible that increased vaginal discharge may occur at a young age due to vaginal atrophy and inflammation.

(7) Foreign matter has entered the reproductive organs. There are gauze, tampons, menstrual plugs, etc. in the vagina. Some women have contraceptive devices placed in their uterus because it is not suitable for some reason. All of these will stimulate the reproductive organs and increase the amount of leucorrhea.

Mitigation methods

Prevention of increased vaginal discharge

(1) Under the premise of a clear diagnosis, the most important treatment for pathological leucorrhea is to treat the primary disease or specific pathogens.

(2) For sinuses in the vagina, urethra, or rectum, surgical resection is the best cure, and certain antibacterial drugs should also be used to avoid secondary bacterial infection.

(3) If pathological leucorrhea is caused by a foreign body, the foreign body should be removed promptly and, if necessary, antibacterial drugs should be used to prevent and treat secondary bacterial infection.

(4) If microscopic examination confirms the presence of Trichomonas infection, drug therapy is a relatively common treatment method. Common drugs include metronidazole, tinidazole, etc. Doctors generally adopt different treatment methods according to the different causes of increased vaginal discharge.
