When can the gestational sac be seen?

During the entire pregnancy period, B-ultrasound examination is the most important screening method. Generally, in the early stage of pregnancy, B-ultrasound is used to check whether the gestational sac is in the uterine cavity and the development of the gestational sac, the fetal bud and the fetal heart rate. Many friends who have just become pregnant will be curious about when to go to the hospital for a check-up so that they can see the gestational sac. The following will introduce in detail when the gestational sac can be seen. I hope it can help everyone.

How long does it take to see the gestational sac?

1. The gestational sac is the initial form of pregnancy. It is a small embryo wrapped in the original placental tissue by the amniotic membrane and vascular network. The fetus had not yet formed at that time, but the fetal heartbeat was already there when the embryo bud appeared.

2. The gestational sac is very small at the beginning and then grows slowly. Generally speaking, after 5 weeks of pregnancy, a small gestational sac can be seen on B-ultrasound, which occupies less than 1/4 of the uterine cavity, or a fetal bud can be seen. If it is a normal intrauterine pregnancy, the gestational sac can be seen in the uterus through B-ultrasound around 40 days of pregnancy. However, due to individual differences in the time of conception, some pregnant women may not be able to see it until around 45 days.

3. Usually, when HCG reaches 1000U/L, vaginal ultrasound should be able to identify the intrauterine gestational sac. This is around the 4th or 5th day of the 5th week of pregnancy. When HCG reaches 6500U/L, abdominal ultrasound can identify the intrauterine gestational sac. Therefore, vaginal ultrasound will be more accurate. If the intrauterine gestational sac is not seen on the 49th day of pregnancy during a normal menstrual cycle, ectopic pregnancy should be suspected.

In fact, the size of the gestational sac varies from person to person. The "person" here does not refer to babies of different genders, but to the pregnant woman herself, or the fetal development affected by the pregnant mother's personal circumstances.

Measuring the size of the gestational sac with B-ultrasound is mainly used to estimate the gestational age. Based on the changes in the data, defects in fetal development can be detected in a timely manner. However, the gestational sac still varies in size, and many pregnant mothers don’t know what to do if the gestational sac is too small.

Generally speaking, a small gestational sac may be due to emotional tension, which may cause the expectant mother's menstruation to be delayed, ovulation to be delayed, and conception to be late, resulting in the gestational sac being smaller than the actual number of days of amenorrhea. For example, the menstruation has not stopped for 50 days, but the examination finds that the gestational sac is only about the size of a 40-day gestational sac. It is normal for the gestational sac to be small. As long as a dynamic examination for one week shows that the levels of chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone are gradually increasing, the gestational sac continues to grow, and the fetal bud and fetal heart gradually appear, it means that the small gestational sac is due to physiological reasons and the pregnancy can continue.

However, if the gestational sac is underdeveloped and smaller than normal due to infection with mycoplasma, chlamydia, rubella virus, etc. during pregnancy, the gestational sac is unhealthy and will eventually lead to miscarriage.

Therefore, the size of the gestational sac cannot determine the gender of the baby. If the gestational sac is small, the pregnant mother should pay more attention to it, as it may not be a sign of having a boy or a girl, but a sign that the fetus is not fully developed.
