Vaginal bleeding in girls

Vaginal bleeding in girls

The body structure of a girl is completely different from that of an adult woman, and the physical health of children is also a concern for many adults. Many girls have experienced vaginal bleeding. This situation is related to many reasons, which makes many adults very worried and curious. If a girl has vaginal bleeding, she must be examined and treated accordingly.

1. Not necessarily precocious puberty

Vaginal bleeding in girls is not necessarily due to precocious puberty. For girls, precocious puberty is only a small part of the causes, while many of the causes are related to trauma, tumors, infection, foreign bodies and drugs. Therefore, parents need to check at home whether there is any external injury, foreign body in the vagina, development of organs such as breasts, or accidental ingestion of contraceptive pills. If this is not the case, please go to the pediatric endocrinology department for further examination.

2. Neonatal vaginal bleeding

Under the influence of large amounts of estrogen in the placenta, the female fetus's uterus and ovaries are affected to a certain extent, resulting in partially developed follicles and atretic follicles in the ovaries, and hyperplasia of the endometrium. In a small number of baby girls, due to the interruption of maternal estrogen supply after birth, the endometrium undergoes hormone withdrawal shedding, resulting in menstrual-like vaginal bleeding that disappears on its own after a few days and does not require treatment.

3. Vaginitis in children

During infancy, the ovaries are not yet developed, and the vaginal epithelium lacks the influence of estrogen, so the mucosa is thin and has weak resistance. Any pathogen can cause severe vaginitis, especially if there is foreign body retained in the vagina, which is more likely to cause infection and lead to vaginal bleeding, often accompanied by purulent and foul-smelling secretions. A detailed medical history and digital rectal examination can aid in the diagnosis. If necessary, a vaginal examination under anesthesia can confirm the diagnosis.
