Will a newborn baby have menstruation?

Some careful mothers may find that their newborn daughters have vaginal bleeding.

This type of bleeding is actually a bit like menstruation and is also caused by the shedding of the endometrium. Sometimes there is no bleeding but vaginal discharge.

In order for the endometrium to be exfoliated, it needs to grow a little bit first, which requires estrogen. Babies do not produce estrogen on their own, but when they are in their mother's womb, the mother's estrogen is transferred to the baby's body through the umbilical cord and placenta, causing a small amount of endometrial hyperplasia. After delivery and leaving the mother's body, the estrogen is gone, the endometrium can no longer grow, and it falls off.

In most cases, the amount of bleeding or secretion is generally small, there is no odor, and it will gradually disappear after a few days. This is a physiological condition, don't worry, just pay attention to helping clean the vulva.

However, if the bleeding is heavy and lasts for a long time, you should see a doctor to rule out congenital coagulation disorders.

The most common vulvovaginitis

This is the most common gynecological disease in young girls, and is more common in summer. Because little girls are developmentally immature, have less estrogen, and have weak local resistance in their vulva and vagina, their resistance to pathogens is far less than that of adults and they are more prone to inflammation.

The symptoms of vulvovaginitis in young girls are similar to those in adults, including abnormal vaginal discharge, even a foul odor, redness and swelling of the vulva, itching, etc. If the child cannot speak yet, he may cry, scratch his vulva with his hands, etc. At this time, the mother should be alert and seek medical attention in time.

If the treatment is not timely, the inflammation will be prolonged, and sometimes it will cause adhesion of the labia minora, which will cause pain every time you urinate and the inability to see the vaginal opening.

Prevention points:

1. Clean the vulva 1-2 times a day, using separate towels and basins.

2. Teach little girls to wipe the anus from front to back after defecation to prevent bacteria from the anus from being brought to the vaginal opening.

3. Do not wear open-crotch pants. It is best to wear cotton underwear, which is breathable. It should also be washed separately and dried in the sun.

4. If a mother suffers from vulvovaginitis, she must pay attention to isolation in daily life details to avoid abnormal secretions from contacting her daughter's vulva.

5. Once a problem is discovered, do not take medicine on your own. Different bacteria require different medicines, and the dosage for children is also different from that for adults. So the best way is to find a professional doctor.
